Kurt Warner Staying a Cardinal, Arizona Looks to Repeat as NFC Champs

Kurt Warner has resigned with the Arizona Cardinals, not a surprise. His visit to the 49ers was for show and I don't think there was a real possibility that he would sign with a rebuilding San Francisco team. Warner's signing, a 2 year deal, is bad news for Cardinals backup Matt Leinart. The former USC star QB has waited 3 years for his chance to start and it looks like he'll be waiting a while longer. While no one wants to be on the bench, Leinart should do all he can to get better, while learning from Kurt. He should even call Aaron Rodgers and ask him how he dealt with it. For now, Arizona is sticking with the hot hand, Warner.

The Cardinals who lost a heartbreaking Super Bowl, to the Pittsburgh Steelers, have the talent to return as NFC champs this year. The offense is lethal and rivals the Warner lead Ram's offense. Like with the Rams, Warner has great receivers. Larry Fitzgerald is one of the best receivers in the game. He catches everything thrown his way and ended the season with 1431 yards. (Sportsillustrated.cnn.com/team/stats/cardinals) You can see why Warner wanted to stay, besides the great weather, he has the best tandem of young receivers in the NFL in Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald.

Now, the Cardinals must find a way to keep the disgruntled Boldin, who has said he wants to be traded. Losing Boldin would create a huge void in the Cardinals offense and create coverage problems for Fitzgerald, who would see constant double teams. Veteran running back, Edgerrin James has also said he wants to be traded or released. Regarding James, the Cardinals should trade or release him. During the later part of last season, he was used sparingly, as rookie back Tim Hightower cut into his playing time.

The Cardinals are in a good position as a football team, they play in the weak NFC West and don't have many holes to fill. They could use a pass rusher, cornerback, some offensive line help and another running back, all things they can get in the draft. The Cardinals are a young team and look to get younger and better in April. This team appears set to control their division for some time.

Maybe the long suffering days are over for Cardinals fans, if only Dennis Green were around to enjoy it. The Cardinals are, who we thought they were, a good team.

  • Kurt Warner stays in Arizona.
  • Matt Leinart the wait contines.
  • With Warner signed can Arizona keep Boldin happy?
The Arizona Cardinals are a young team, looking to repeat as NFC Champs. The pieces are in place, they just have to keep it together.
