Kwik-E-Mart Simpsons Products Resold Online

It appears that some enterprising individuals saw more than a movie promo when 7-11 changed just a handful of stores to Kwik-E-Marts to promote the upcoming Simpsons movie. For some, they saw dollar signs.

According to their website, 7-Eleven operates some 32,000 stores in 17 countries. Out of those, only twelve stores have been converted to Kwik-E-Marts. The ones that have been converted are located in Burbank, Calif.; Chicago, Ill.; Dallas, Texas; Denver, Colo.; Orlando, Fla.; Las Vegas, Nev.; Los Angeles, Calif.; New York City, N.Y.; San Francisco, Calif.; Seattle, Wash.; Vancouver, B.C.; and Washington, D.C.

At these twelve Kwik-E-Marts, shoppers can purchase special Simpsons products such as a Radioactive Man comic book, Squishees, pink donuts, Buzz cola, and Krusty O's cereal. Some of those fortunate enough to live in one of the twelve lucky cities have seen this as an opportunity to make some money. The full range of these products has gone up for sale on e-bay, being marketed as collectors' items.

Unfortunately, the sales of these items may be a bit premature, considering that they will be on sale in stores until the end of July. Can an item truly be a collector's item while it can still be purchased at a convenience store?

Some have already cashed in on profits. A recent e-bay auction ended with a final bid of $73.00 for a lot including one pack of Buzz cola, one box of Krusty-O's Cereal, two copies of the Radioactive Man comic, and one Kwik-E-Mart Styrofoam cooler. Another lot that included Buzz cola, Squishee cups and the collectible straws, Krusty O's, Radioactive Man comics, and a dancing Homer doll sold for $86.00.

Where the real money is at, however, seems to be in the uniform. The Kwik-E-Mart uniform is not officially for sale at the converted 7-11 stores. Employees at these stores will be wearing the special Kwik-E-Mart uniform this month. Some of these uniform shirts have made it onto e-bay, and are being sold for high dollar amounts. At this moment, with about a day and a half left in the auction, one uniform shirt is currently at a $260 bid. Another is going for $81, but has 5 days left in the auction. It is likely that both of these shirts will sell for several hundred dollars.

According to a reviewer on Yelp.com, an employee in San Francisco, Calif., informed a questioning customer that she would sell the shirt for $300. When July ends and 7-11 employees return to their usual garb, will there be a e-bay mad dash for these Kwik-E-Mart uniforms? Only time will tell.

I think it's odd that with only 12 in the country, two of them are less than 30 miles apart. I wonder why. I mean, is Burbank really that different from Los Angeles?
