Kyle Busch Gets a Speeding Ticket

Busch Doing 128 in a 45 Zone

Recently NASCAR driver Kyle Busch got a speeding ticket after being clocked at 128 MPH in a 45 MPH zone. The driver of the Joe Gibbs No. 18 Toyota was playing with his new toy a Lexus LFA sports car with his wife Samantha riding along with him. Kyle Busch was ticketed on Perth Road in Troutman North Carolina, which is near his home.

WFNZ which is Charlotte's premier sports radio station was flooded with calls and emails today on the subject of Kyle Busch's speeding ticket. I called in to join in the talk on "Thinking Man's Radio" on the OTB show with Brett Jensen. Jensen asked me if I thought Busch should be fined or suspended. I replied that I thought he should have been jailed.

In the past I ran a commercial delivery route which included Perth Road in Troutman and nearby Mooresville North Carolina. Perth Road connects the two cities and highway 150 in Mooresville to highway 21 in Troutman and is very heavily traveled. It is also very restricted in the ability to drive fast on it. The road is curvy and very residential with many hidden driveways and small housing developments.

Kyle Busch got his speeding ticket in the Stumpy Creek section of Perth Road which contains youth ball fields. Kyle Busch knows this area well as he lives off of Perth Road as do several NASCAR drivers.

An Iredell County Sheriffs Deputy ticketed Kyle Busch for driving 128 in a 45 and released him. That is what people here in North Carolina are mad about. An attorney told Brett Jensen that most non celebrities would have been arrested and taken to jail. But in this country you get as much justice as you can afford and celebrities are often excused from paying for their crimes.

And make no mistake NASCAR is king in Iredell County North Carolina. The sport brings lots of money to the area and there are many NASCAR drivers who live in the county.

Iredell County is sending the message that the fair haired boys of NASCAR are just a little better than the rest of us. I am a lukewarm fan of NASCAR at best as you can see if you check out my other articles; I write about the NFL far more than anything else. But I certainly recognize the importance of the sport to North Carolina.

But NASCAR should police Kyle Busch and not with just a fine that he will shrug off. Kyle Busch should be suspended by NASCAR or North Carolina (and former Redskins coach) native Joe Gibbs. My prediction is that Busch will get a slap on the wrist by Iredell County and by his employers.

I was going to say the same thing, great inside info. The baseball fields probably didn't have kids since it was 1:52 in the afternoon but the hidden drives and everything is pretty dangerous. Since that car has a top speed of 202 I bet he was already cooling off when he was clocked. IF they do suspend him that will set a precedent so that won't happen.

I thought it was funny that the car was picked up at Rick Hendrick Lexus. Did they set him up? Good story if they did.

Good insider info! Maybe Busch will acknowledge his mistake and do something for the community as penance. BTW, I wonder what the top speed is for a police cruiser.
