Kyle's Corner (FYI) Engines Then and Now

Kyle Busch
Given today's challenging
economic times, we have
all been asked to do more
as in multitasking, etc.
Sometimes, the good old
days seem pretty good
indeed!

Well, since we are
asked to do more with
less, why shouldn't the
internal combustion
engines in today's and
tomorrow's vehicles be
built to do more?

Here is a brief look at the size and output for engines then (as recent as
5 years ago) and now.

Then 1995 Honda Accord V6 2.7-liter, 170 hp, 165 lb. ft. torque
Now 2010 Honda Accord Inline-4 2.4-liter, 177 hp, 151 lb. ft. torque

Then 1988 BMW 750iL V12 5.0-liter, 296 hp, 332 lb. ft. torque
Now 2011 BMW 740iL Inline-6 3.0-liter twin turbo, 315 hp, 330 lb. ft. torque

Then 1993 Ford Mustang Cobra V8 4.9-iter, 235 hp, 280 lb. ft. torque
Now 2011 Ford Mustang Cobra V6 3.7-liter, 305 hp, 280 lb. ft. torque

We are likely to be asked to do more in the future, and increasingly smaller
internal combustion engines will be doing likewise.
