Kyle's Corner (FYI) Nobody's Fool: We Drive with the Best of Them

Kyle Busch
The magazine Total 911
did a piece on an April
Fool's idea they thought
was clever.

They wrote and posted
a blog entry announcing
the return of a modern
Porsche 912. For those
of you who are not familiar
with the Porsche nomen-
clature, the original 912
was a late 60s and 1976
(gas crisis) 4-cylinder
engined 911.

The magazine claimed that the new 912 was based on the 997 (current 911)
with a "chopped down" engine and a simpler interior. Such was quite
creditable and the publication went on to quote Porsche's marketing
manger, Avril Dummkopf who commented on the automaker's targeting
of the UK and USA markets saying, "UK buyers are stuck in traffic much
of the time, so have no need for a powerful car. Americans, meanwhile,
are too busy drinking coffee to drive properly. It is only us Germans, and
perhaps the Italians, who only drive 911s as they're meant to be driven."

The magazine thought that readers would see the post as an April
Fool's trick. However, some readers of the blog complained about
Dummkopf's comment. And a few readers actually thought that a
new 4-cylinder Porsche 912 would be a good idea.

Well, regardless of fake blogs, we in America can drive with the
best of them whether they are from Germany, Italy, or wherever! U.S.
drivers have the greatest transportation independence of any country.
If such were not so, why do they all want to sell us their cars?
