Kyle's Corner (FYI) a Smaller Mercedes Star: Sub C-Class Likely Coming to the U.S

Kyle Busch
Mercedes-Benz has ad-
ded hybrid vehicles to
their lineup. Additionally,
the automaker plans to
sell smaller cars to help
it obtain its corporate
Average Fuel Economy
goals.

The smaller B-Class cars
were intended for the U.S.
market, but exchange rates
keep the cars out of our
market.

Currently, the B-Class is being sold in Canada.

A new subC-Class Mercedes will likely be coming to the U.S. beginning in
2013. The car will be front-wheel drive and it will have a modular platform.
Such a design will allow flexibility for drivetrain variations under the floor.
These include fuel-cells, hydrogen tanks, or batteries for an all electric car.

Unlike the current A-Class and B-Class Mercedes, the upcoming sub C-Class
will offer much more flexibility thus allowing it to quickly configured as
the auto marketplace dictates.

Mercedes seems to be uncertain about the future automotive market-
place as it is moving towards small front-wheel drive cars and focusing
on economy rather than its luxury orientation. How the three pointed star
does in the new automotive environment remains to be seen. Will Mercedes
be able to adjust or will it be like a fish out of water? Time will indeed tell!
