Early in the fall of 2009, Kylie Minogue, a world-renowned pop songstress, made her first ever foray into North America with her "For You, For Me Tour." The tour, which played smaller, intimate venues, was so successful that the singer decided to add North America stops once again to her newest "Aphrodite Tour." Last night marked the second night of her three-date return stint at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom and once again the singer absolutely rocked the house.

The set for Kylie Minogue's "Aphrodite Tour" is very reminiscent of an ancient Greek civilization long since buried beneath the sea. With classic Greek columns fitted with state of the art video screens providing a backdrop and three staircases leading down towards the stage from a launching platform, one could tell from before the show even started that the visual impact of the show would be eye catching.

After only a short wait from the 8 p.m. start time, the house lights went down and the crowd roared in anticipation as the opening overture segued into the title track from Kylie's latest, 'ËœAphrodite.' Once the music had built up to the point of the first verse, the star suddenly appeared from behind a clam shell at the center of the platform above. Once again, the crowd of mostly gay men thundered with approval.

All in all, the show was a two-hour mutual love fest between Kylie and her fans, featuring several songs from the 'ËœAphrodite' CD, as well as a choice favorites. After performing the ethereal 'ËœThe One,' from her 2007 album, 'ËœX,' the singer got the crowd really going with the energetic and playful 'ËœWow.' The fun continued as Kylie played it up for her gay audience with scantily clad male dancers during 'ËœCupid Boy,' as highly charged erotic images of men flashed across the screens.

Once the audience had had their first fill of men, the singer announced it was the ladies turn as she and her female dancers and backup singers began the upbeat 'ËœSpinning Around,' from her 2000 set, 'ËœLight Years.' The crowd was set into a frenzy as the singer urged them to sing along to the chorus. From there on out, the love affair between Kylie and her fans was evident as the singer performed such standards as 'ËœCan't Get You Out of My Head,' 'ËœIn My Arms,' and an fun and entertaining mash-up of 'ËœLove at First Sight' and 'ËœCan't Beat the Feeling.'

A highlight of the show came towards the back-half of the show with a double dose of heavenly creatures. The singer performed her blissful 'ËœLooking for an Angel,' as the mythical beings hovered over the set, and then she segued into a powerful rendition of the Eurythmics' classic 'ËœThere Must Be an Angel (Playing with My Heart). The singer's 2003 hit 'ËœSlow' got a little slower and a little burlesque, very reminiscent of the classic 'ËœHey Big Spender.'

Kylie became more interactive with the audience as the show progressed, noticing a sign a fan was holding that read, "All I need is a picture with you." Much to the delight of the audience and this fan in particular, the singer beckoned security guards to help the young man on to the stage, where she playfully posed with him for a couple of sassy photos.

After performing the inspirational 'ËœBetter Than Today,' Kylie took a request from another audience member, who had a placard that simply read 'ËœLucky.' The singer asked her band members for some impromptu notes and performed a little slice of her early 1987 hit, 'ËœI Should Be So Lucky.'

Once the singer had finished the energetic 'ËœPut Your Hands Up (If You Feel Love),' it was time to leave the stage in preparation for her double encore, 2000's 'ËœOn a Night Like This' and the pleasant first single from 'ËœAphrodite,' 'ËœAll the Lovers.' The singer thanked the enthusiastic New York audience for their support and headed off for the evening, leaving the fans wanting more. The evening's love affair had ended and everyone went home happy, Including this writer.
