Streaming television across the Internet has been gaining popularity. Recently, Netflix reported record fourth quarter financial results on the basis of the upswing in recent subscriptions to their on-line streaming service. Apple TV is catching fire with consumers as Netflix reported that downloads of its movies via Apple TV devices has surpassed downloads by iPod, iPhone, and iPad users. Netflix also makes its services available on a number of other devices like the Wii and the Xbox.

There are competitors to Apple TV, the most popular being a set top box made by Roku. Roku offers many of the same features as Apple TV, depending on the set top model that you purchase. Some features of Roku even surpass that of the Apple TV. There is another Internet streaming television box that is hitting the market in the United States that is geared toward Chinese viewers. This is the KyLinTV box. The KyLinTV streaming device is specifically geared to spreading Chinese channels and programming abroad.

How much does KyLinTv Cost?
KyLinTv offers 14 different Chinese Television Channel packages that range in price from about $7 to $35 per month. Each package offers a lineup of stations that are a mix of mainland Chinese networks, combined with a few stations that are centered on an central theme or area of the the world.. For example, you can select a package that is directed towards audiences from Taiwan, with a mix of mainland Chinese channels, the Philippines.

There are also a variety of movie channels, and on demand services that are available. In total there about 60 channels that are available from China, Macao, Hong Kong, and the Philippines. Most channels are offered in Mandarin Chinese. But there are several that are in French, Spanish, and Cantonese. One channel is even broadcast in the Hakka language, which is from an indigenous tribe in Taiwan. There is an English language package that offers channels like the NFL Network, the Weather Channel, and Fox News.

Setup the KyLinTV
To use KyLinTv you need to have a high speed Internet connection. For each account you may connect up to 4 boxes to your account. Each box costs about $200. However, at times the company does offer a free box if you sign up for an extended contract. The box has a wireless connection built in. You will need a television that accepts an three wire component video jack, which is standard on modern televisions. Set up and configuration to your home network is straightforward, as long as you are fluent in reading Chinese. Set up time took about 10 minutes.

Resolution and Performance of KyLinTV
How well KyLinTv performs is strongly dependent on how well your high speed Internet connection works. For an underpowered router, KylLinTV will high jack your home router, and cause slowdown for other users in your home. The picture quality is fair to good for most channels, but would not qualify as a HD. Picture quality is also dependent on the quality of the stream that is being offered by the channel being viewed. In some cases pixelation of the images was seen, especially when viewing some of the variety and news channels.

Overall, the KyLinTv would serve as a acceptable replacement to bulky home satellite systems for Chinese families living abroad. The price is affordable, and there is no need to install extra equipment associated with larger satellite systems.
