La Bontana Tex Mex Restaurant in Lawrenceville, Georgia

American Mexican in Georgia

Karen Francis
Mexican food has been one of my favorite cuisines since I was a child. I am not sure if it was the authentic tacos or the chips and salsa, but I loved it. There were so many Mexican restaurants in New York that it was hard to choose a favorite because I loved them all. Growing up in New York you have access to so many wonderful places to eat that sometimes, it's had to nail down your favorite, because you love so much about each restaurant you go to. You might love the décor in one, but hate the food in another, or love the food in one, but dislike how far you have to travel to another.

When I relocated to Atlanta, Georgia in 2001, I was introduced to a Tex Mex place in Snellville, Georgia where I wasn't impressed with the food. I felt that it was a watered down version of a "real" Mexican restaurant, so it was until 2003 when I decided to try another Tex Mex restaurant located off of Sugarloaf Parkway in Lawrenceville, Georgia. It was called La Bontana Tex Mex Restaurant. As soon as I walked into the establishment I was pleased with the welcoming décor. It was reminiscent of the traditional Mexican Restaurants that I had grown up visiting in New York.

The owners and wait staff are extremely friendly and welcoming. They really know how to make you feel part of the family. The menu has so many choices to choose from that It's hard to choose just one dish. I have eaten everything from Enchiladas to their Fish Tacos and I love pretty much every dish they offer. They have seafood Quesadilla that is so good that you won't believe it cost $8.00. The dish comes with a very large Quesadilla with lots of seafood and vegetables, rice and salad. It's a lot of food for such a small price. I typically always have left overs.

La Botana also has wonderful desserts to choose from, but I must warn you, you may not have room for dessert after you try one of their abundant dishes. I know a lot of people love to have Margaritas with their meal, so you will not be disappointed. You can have your margarita frozen or with ice and with our without salt. Anyway you like it, they serve it.

La Botana Tex Mex Restaurant is located at 4825 Sugarloaf Parkway, Lawrenceville, Georgia, inside the strip mall with Starbucks. Prices range from $4 to $12, and the taste of authentic Mexican is fantastic!
