There is plentiful and delicious vegetarian food in Buenos Aires, Argentina. While walking around Buenos Aires today I was lucky enough to stumble upon La Ciboulette vegetarian restaurant. While I have eaten at several Chinese vegetarian restaurants in Buenos Aires, La Ciboulette is not Chinese at all and serves traditional Argentine cuisine, vegetarian style. I highly recommend this Argentine home-style vegetarian restaurant.

La Ciboulette vegetarian restaurant is the first vegetarian restaurant in Buenos Aires and has been open for twenty-six years. The atmosphere is casual and they keep the restaurant very clean. The dining room is cozy but ample and seats approximately sixty people. The owner Roberto Figueroa is very friendly and is happy to chat with his customers. As I sat and ate my vegetarian food, many regulars came in for take out plates by the kilo (tenedor libre). I could tell they were regulars because Roberto seemed to know them all and took the time to have a conversation with each one. Roberto speaks some English.

La Ciboulette vegetarian restaurant features both a hot and cold buffet which costs 20 pesos for lunch and $25 pesos for dinner (currently $7 USD). Additionally there is a daily economical vegetarian meal, la comida economica de dia, which costs $15 pesos for lunch and $16 pesos for dinner (currently $4 USD). Beverages, the ususal Argentine assortment, and desserts are an additional cost and La Ciboulette vegetarian restaurant also serves beer.

The vegetarian hot bar features 10 steamy, mouth watering savory dishes of vegetarian food. There were two types of pizza: Neapolitan and vegetable and they were delicious. Additionally there was: velvety creamed cauliflower (reminiscent of Campbell's style), saucy penne pasta with onions and potatoes, crunchy mock milanesa medallions, gnocchi with tomato sauce, unique eggplant squares wrapped in greens, homemade vegetable soup and two styles of rice. All these vegetarian dishes were mild and scrumptious, like all Argentine cuisine.

The fresh salad bar featured 13 different vegetarian items to choose from. Including 2 types of lettuce, tomatoes, shredded carrots, sliced cucumbers, white bean salad, rice and beet salad, carrot and sprout salad, and my favorite a mixture of diced green and red peppers, onions and sliced eggplant in olive oil.

La Ciboulette vegetarian restaurant also has a table of condiments for you to season your vegetarian food to your liking. Condiments include: lemon juice, soy sauce, 3 types of vinegar (balsamic, wine and white), olives, fresh grated parmesan cheese and a savory home made vinaigrette.

La Ciboulette vegetarian restaurant is conveniently located in the Callao neighborhood of Capital Federal, Buenos Aires. La Ciboulette vegetarian restaurant is easily accessible by subway (Red Line "B", Callao station, or by bus numbers: 5, 7, 12, 37, 50, 107 & 168). Taking a taxi is always an option.

La Ciboulette vegetarian restaurant, 1808 Sarmiento (on the corner of Sarmiento andCallao), Buenos Aires, Argentina. Telephone: 4371-0635 or 4372-1010.
