Travel Tips

There is a magnificent coastal historical town in France called La Rochelle. La Rochelle is packed with a strong maritime history and the harbor offers fresh sea air in one of France's most beautiful seaside towns. La Rochelle is sited on the western coast of France and is connected to the Ile De Re Island by a bridge. This town was originally founded in the 10th century so not only is the maritime history fascinating the entire village is seeped in history and adventure.

La Rochelle became one of France's most important harbors during the 12th century and today it hosts one of Europe's largest marina for pleasure boats. Sailors, fishermen and stars all share the same water and in Vieux Port (the old harbor), mix and enjoy the party vibe that La Rochelle has to offer. Tourists flock to La Rochelle in June when the city comes alive for a fantastic Summer festival which is held on 2nd and 3rd. During the festival the city comes alive with parades, music on the streets and has a wonderful carnival atmosphere.

La Rochelle offers everything from a camping park to 5 plus star hotels so you can enjoy this jewel of France at any financial level. The fantastic seafood restaurants offer freshly caught fish, prawns, lobster and a wide variety of seafoods. The variety of restaurants is endless and if your preference is a gourmet meal or a hamburger, La Rochelle has it all on offer.

This town is a favorite with divers as the coastline around the city offers historical dives; you never know what you will find in the ancient waters that lap gently around this town. There are plenty of museums to keep those who prefer terra firma and a range of historical sites to visit. This holiday is best suited to couples, seniors or for those who want a quiet, yet fun time. Highly recommended holiday.
