Labor Day Black Forest Brownie Dessert

A Decadent Dessert so Good... You'll Even Impress Yourself!

Rachel de Carlos
This is so easy, but tastes like you've spent hours on it.

What you need:

1 tub Philadelphia Cheesecake Filling (24.3 oz)

1 can Cherry Pie Filling (21 oz)

Greenhill's Brownie mix
OR
1 box Betty Crocker Brownie mix
2 eggs
oil
water

Make the brownies according to the directions on the box. I like the chewier kind, so I use an 8 1/2" x 11" pan instead of the 13" x 9" pan, and bake them for about 27 minutes. Be careful not to over-bake brownies or they come out dry and crumbly instead of moist and a little sticky.

Let your brownies cool and if you think you're going to eat them before you have a chance to put the dessert together, then make two batches. If you make a second batch, I recommend Greenhill's suggestion for Ghirardelli Dark Chocolate Brownie Mix. There's a mouthwatering picture of them with the review. You know they won't go to waste if you're having friends and family over for a BBQ. Heck, they don't go to waste when I'm home alone!

How to put together the Black Forest Brownie Dessert

For the full effect of the colors and textures, use a medium size glass bowl.

Depending on what's easiest for you, either cut the brownies into small 1" squares, or break the brownies into pieces with your fingers.

When you've broken or cut enough to cover the bottom of the glass bowl, carefully spoon a layer of Philadelphia cheesecake filling over the brownies. Use a little less than half the tub for this layer. The cheesecake filling is quite firm, so it's best to use small spoonfuls or even slice pieces off to make this layer. You won't be able to spread the cheesecake, so make sure it lands where you want it so that too many brownie crumbs don't get mixed in.

When you've got a layer of cheesecake filling on top of the layer of cubed or broken brownies, open the can of pie filling and spoon a layer of cherries and the gel over the cheesecake filling. Use a little less than half for this layer.

The reason you use a little less than half for the bottom layers is because the bowl is usually smaller at the bottom than the top. You want to have enough pie filling to generously cover the top of the dessert.

Repeat the layers of brownie pieces, the rest of the cheesecake filling, and top with the remaining cherry pie filling.

You can make this up the day before your bash and cover with plastic wrap. I won't give directions for how to store the leftovers, because there won't be any.

Happy Labor Day!
