Slate Stone
This is a fun craft for kids to celebrate and acknowledge the purpose of Labor Day. It can be an interactive craft with a teacher or parent, and one that will open up educational discussion.

Here is all you need:

some old magazines

glue or glue sticks

thick paper such as cardstock or poster board

some colored markers or ink pens or crayons

a piece of notebook paper

Directions:

Have the child choose a profession that he or she aspires to be when they grow up, or choose to make a collage about a profession of someone they admire, such as a parent or relative or neighbor.

On a piece of paper have the child write down a list of everything they can possibly think of related to the chosen profession they are going to create the kids craft collage. For example, if the profession were zoo keeper, what things may be involved with the profession? It could range from cages, animal food, baby bottles for nursing baby animals, medicines and medical equipment for caring for the animals, garbage bags and cans for disposal of waste, and so on. If the chosen profession, for example were a fire fighter, it could involve a picture of a fire extinguisher, pictures of ladders and hoses, fire trucks, fire houses, telephone for dialing 911, rain coat, fire alrm or smoke detector, a picture of a fire, etc.

Once the child brainstorms a list of as many items as they can possibly think of related to the chosen Labor Day craft then they can proceed to look for pictures related to the topic. They will be instructed to cut out those pictures and if they can't find everything they are looking for they can fill in the blank spaces with hand drawn pictures.

Have the child arrange the pictures on the paper in their own creative thought process. The child will then glue their pictures and use their colored markers or crayers or ink pens to decorate any white space if desired. They can also cut out words from magazines to emphasize any Labor day career words they want to include in this kids craft collage.

Enjoy the Labor Day Kid's craft and ambitious children may enjoy it so much they make more than one Labor Day collage!

Have fun!

Glue sticks are far less messy than liquid glue. They also tend to be acid free which means the craft paper should not deteriorate with time
