Kiamichi River Area for Labor Day Weekend:
Glover River
P.O. Box 292, Battiest, OK 74722
Secluded and untamed (no dams block its course) and un-commercialized this river is for experienced people. Located in the southeast corner of Oklahoma, this pristine river runs southward through most of McCurtain County, starting in the southwest corner of the Kiamichi Mountains. There are no concessions available along this river so the prospective floater should have knowledge of topography and experience with unpredictable waters. When the water is low, rocks, logs and low falls make for a difficult float, and then the water is up, the journey is very dangerous. Some cabin operators in the area will offer the use of a canoe with lodging rental to enjoy the natural beauty and solitude of this river. No phone number is available.
Red River for Labor Day Weekend: (Class II-III River)
Blue Southcentral
Tishomingo, OK 73460
1-580-371-9288
Beginning near Connerville in Johnston County and flowing southeasterly to the Red River, this spring-fed water has a designated trout area (November 1 through March 31) in the Blue River Public Fishing and Hunting Area. Other fishing opportunities exist for black bass, channel and blue catfish, and crappie. A Blue Conservation Passport is required of all persons who enter or use the Blue area. Camping facilities are available only at the Blue River Campground. Float trip opportunities by kayak or this Class II-III river, offering several falls and ledges depending on seasonal waterfall. No commercial outfitters along the river and public access points are limited. Supplies and information can be found at Scotty Blue One Stop, located at the entrance to the public hunting and fishing area. Call for additional information.
Whether you float the rivers by canoe, kayak or inner tube and you are a beginner or experienced, you are sure to have a great time in the sun and water over the Labor Day weekend. Call today for information and make your reservations.
A note of caution; Oklahoma waters can be very dangerous, especially for inexperienced swimmers or young children. Always call for current water levels and forecast conditions prior to your designated arrival date. Fun is the number one priority and safety ensures that end.

Post a CommentDo not choose DIAMONDHEAD FLOATS to float with. Kevin the manager/owner is very rude and just plain awful. Yesterday my raft wrapped around a tree and my 4 of us nearly drowned. We had to be rescued by the Illinois River Patrol. My daughter in law who is pregnant and I didn't want to finish the float so we chose to go back to the resort. Kevin the manager/owner yelled and screamed at me when we got back. All he cared about was his damn raft. I know the river was very high but if he has problems with renting out the rafts when the conditions were like they were then he should have stayed closed. He threatened to call the park rangers and kicked me out of his store. I tried to explain to him what happened but he said he didn't care about our lives but only about his raft that I was responsible for. Later that same day he did it to another person. His staff was apologizing for his rube obnoxious unprofessional manner.
Floating is fun - but not at eagle bluff resort. DO NOT GO THERE! If you have any problems with a camping spot, cabin stay, or a river craft, the staff can do nothing about it except tell the owners, who are less than helpful. The woman owner was rude to my family when we requested a different camping spot because our neighbors were being disruptive (this was in the FAMILY camping ground - we were assured upon arrival that all partying would be done in what they call the wilderness area.) The office girls were nice enough, but could not help us as they are apparently unable to do so, as the owners are in control of everything.
I wil not float OR stay there again, and will be looking to other resorts for my future needs.
lots of fun cool!!!!
I hadn't floated in an inner tube in years - thanks for bringing up good memories for me.
