Memphis is known to be the "Birthplace of Rock-N-Roll" and the home of the Blues. In 1959 Stax Records came into Memphis and began a music windstorm of soul music with people like Rufus Thomas and the Mar-kays. In 1950 Sam Phillips opened Sun Studios and began the Rock-N-Roll that started the phenomenon for artist like Elvis, Johnny Cash, and Jerry Lee Lewis Memphis also has strong Civil Right's history that makes the city what it is today. In 1968, Martin Luther King was assassinated while he was in Memphis to show his support for the striking sanitation workers. In 1972 one of the city's biggest employers, Federal Express, began work. Those are just some of the city's famous historical facts that makes this city so special. Memphis celebrates every holiday with many events that brings the family together for a lot of fun. Here are some of the Labor Day events that you can take par t in.

Zoo Brew at the Memphis Zoo is an annual event that offers the taste of beers from around the world. While sipping some brew you can take in some local art from Skippy Gronauer and Susan Inman. You have to be 21 or older for this event and while you are having your cultural moment you will be helping the zoo with any purchases made of the art. This takes place Friday, August 31 at 6:30-9:30 P.M. For Members it is a cover charge of $15 and for non-members you can get in for $20.

Zoo Grass provides entertainment from Mean Green Music that can be enjoyed while you are taking in all of the sites of the zoo. It is included in admission.

The Agricenter is hosting the Delta Fair and Music Festival on August 31-September 9. You will know you are there when you smell the funnel cakes and corn dogs that give you the full fair food experience. As you enter the park purchase a wrist band so that you can enjoy everything that the fair has to offer. Browse through the many arts and crafts vendors. There is a ride for everyone to enjoy and there is a kid zone that offers fun for everyone to enjoy with the kids. You will be amazed by all of the roaming fair entertainers and taking aback when you see two people eating away at watermelons for a prize. At the end of the evening make sure to stop and take in the lights of the fair. This is definitely the top pick of things to do for Labor Day Weekend.

These events are fun and exciting. I personally will be going to Delta Fair and Music Festival so that I can take my daughter to enjoy all of the rides and see all of the vendors, I am a sucker for good crafts and end up spending a bundle. On that note, I hope this will guide you in some ideas for the weekend. Labor Day signifies the end of summer and there is no need to let it go to waste.
