Drew Bush
That's right everyone, Labor Day is already around the corner. It really is amazing how fast it comes around, isn't it? With Labor Day comes yummy barbecues, a lot of traveling, and a break from the long hours at work. Millions of Americans will travel during the three day weekend in search of fun and entertainment. So, I thought it would be fitting to give some ideas for Labor Day weekend travel destinations. This list will give people the opportunity to experience a lot of great entertainment and food. Here are some great places to go to during Labor Day weekend:

1. Las Vegas, Nevada

That's right everyone, if you are looking for some great hotel accommodations, amazing shows, first class restaurant experiences and more, well, Las Vegas has got it all. There are a number of wonderful hotels on the Las Vegas strip to choose from and many will offer some great deals because of the turndown of the economy. If you prefer not to stay on the strip, there are some wonderful hotels outside the strip where you can still get the Las Vegas experience. For information on some of these hotels, click here. Many of the hotels have movie theaters, bowling alleys, and some sort of care facility for your kids if you and your special someone wants to have a day or night out on the town.

Las Vegas is also a host to many wonderful shows including Lance Burton's magic show, The Blue Man Group, Cirque du Soleil, and Le Reve. Also playing now is The Lion King which will be a treat for the young ones. For more information on these shows, click here. Another wonderful show is the Fremont Street Experience in downtown Las Vegas where one can see an amazing light show that is put on by thousands upon thousands of neon lights. The little ones will surely enjoy it.

2. Hoover Dam

Hoover Dam is just a mere half hour or so from Las Vegas and has some of the most amazing history known to Southern Nevadans. The dam was constructed so that Southern Nevada's only lake, Lake Mead, could be created. The dam was created in a five year period from 1931-1935 and boasts some of the most amazing engineering marvel in the world. Tours of the dam are offered daily and you will surely get an eyeful of some of the amazing construction. For more information on Hoover Dam and tour information, click here.

If you like to be in the great outdoors, then consider visiting some of the wonderful hiking locations around Las Vegas:

3. RedRockCanyon National Conservation Area

If you travel between twenty and thirty minutes west of Las Vegas, you will emerge into beautiful and colorful desert. Red Rock Canyon has some amazing sites to behold and is a great place for people who like to be in the great outdoors.

4. Lake Mead National Recreation Area

Just about twenty minutes east of Las Vegas is the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Lake Mead is the largest man-made reservoir in the U.S. It boasts many wonderful activities including boating, picnicking, hiking trails, cruises, and more. There is also a visitor center where people can learn about Lake Mead, its history, and its impact on Southern Nevada.

5. The Las Vegas Springs Preserve

The Springs Preserve is a piece of natural history in the heart of a sprawling urban environment. The Springs Preserve has a wonderful layout of desert landscaping, wildlife, and plant life. It can be thought of as a natural history amusement park. There are a number of native animals for people to see including a number of lizards, a desert fox, rabbits, and even a snake. On-site there is a nice theater which gives people a chance to learn about the natural history of the Las Vegas Valley and Southern Nevada. There are many hands on exhibits for kids to try out. Also at the Springs Preserve is a wonderful restaurant and gift shop. For more information on the Springs Preserve, click here.
