Labor Day Weekend Trip to St. Charles, Missouri

Bill Hanks
St. Charles, Missouri has a lot to offer over the Labor Day weekend. My wife and I like to use this weekend as a getaway for the Summer. This article will explain places to go and things to do throughout the city of St. Charles. St. Charles is divided into two sections. There is the old city along the Missouri River and the modern part of the city.

Shops and Shopping
Old St. Charles has many small mom and pop shops along both sides of South Main Street. You can shop for everything from Christmas items, furnishings and clothing to antiques. South Main Street runs about six blocks long. It is easy and well shaded walking. Many times you can find summer close out sales on certain items.

North Main Street is called historic itself. The shops here are similar to, but different from South Main. Here you will jewelry and boutique stores. There are also a few restaurants located in this area.

Spirits
If you like to sample homemade beer, the Trailhead Brewing Company is for you. Besides sampling different ales, they have a full menu to choose from. The Little Hills Winery offers you the chance to sample and purchase wines. They also have a full menu of food, as well.

Museums
St. Charles has six locations to visit, if you are into history. They have an old Lewis and Clark boat house, city museum, Haviland Museum, Foundry Art Center, 1791 church and the first State Capitol.

Ameristar Casino
Within walking distance is the Ameristar Casino. The casino has three restaurants, a spa and two levels of gambling of all types. On the weekend they have a sea buffet special that specializes in crab-meat.

Parks
They have nine different parks in St. Charles and St. Charles county. Lots of hiking and biking trails are located throughout the area. The famous Katy Trail also runs through the city. It is located along the Missouri River and just off of Main Street. Many biking enthusiasts begin their journeys here.

Horse and Buggy Rides
There are several of these located along the streets of St. Charles. They run both day and evening. If you want a romantic ride with your spouse, this is a great way to view the town.

Hotels and Restaurants
There are many hotels and restaurants choose from throughout the area. I suggest making hotel reservations early.

St. Charles is great for that Labor Day weekend getaway.

St Charles is a beautiful town./ We once visted when we attended a wedding there. Makes me wish we'd stayed and seen more of it.

I like to stay at home on busy holiday weekends, but it sounds like a great place to visit any other time of year. 6 museums!

What an awesome place this would be to visit my friend. PS, I loved your advice in Selecting an Assisted Living Home for Seniors because my mother-in-law (only parents living) are getting close to this decision and your advice was excellent. Unfortunately since it was a Health article I could say nothing! Frustrating.
