Labradoodle Carly Sighted on the Raleigh Greenway

Beauty of Raleigh 2010

Max was off on one of his trips across the Raleigh Greenways. As Raleigh has continued to make progress on expanding the system, this is an ongoing journey.

While revisiting the scenic Alleghany Greenway trail, Max came upon a woman with an unusual poodle-looking dog. In fact, it is one of the dogs you might have heard of.

This dog was of medium size and had gorgeous reddish curls. The coat was clean and shiny.

The best thing, according to Max, is the dog's disposition. It was clearly a fun dog. It might be a bit energetic for some, but Max likes a dog that shows it likes people.

This dog goes by the name of Carly (Max has hopefully spelled this right).

The lady walking this dog seemed to be enjoying the walk as much as the dog. That happens when there is a good fit between dog and owner.

According to Wikipedia, Australian breeder Wally Conron bred the first Labradoodle deliberately in 1989. He crossed a Labrador Retriever and a Standard Poodle at his place, Guide Dogs Victoria.

The goal of the cross breeding was, according to the article, to provide guide dogs with low shedding coats combined with the gentleness and trainability of the Labrador.

Though these dogs seem to be good for people with allergies to fur and dander, the articles implies they are not being bred as guide dogs.

Though the dogs have the title Labradoodle, it is too soon to see if they will become an established breed. Issues about uniformity in size, coat, color need to first be firmly established with each new litter of pups.

Independent of whether they can register as a breed, the Labradoodles appear to have a place in the heart of the public. They are particularly sought out by families that want a dog but have one or more members who suffers from an allergy to animal dander.

Max found Carly to be an excellent example of a dog being the best it can. Breeding aside, this is one lovable little dog with a very big heart.

Max has one brother who has a history with a Labradoodle. This was a small white dog that had enough energy for a dozen dogs. It had a white coat and short curly hair. The high energy may be why the originator decided not to continue breeding them. Max is grateful Mr. Conron created the breed as it permitted his brother, with all his allergies, to have a wonderful and fun dog.

Hahahah I've heard of Labradoodles, but I've never seen one in real life. They look adorable! Probably not the sharpest, but I'm sure they're a bunch of fun :-P
