In this article, I will introduce you to this talented guy and hopefully turn you on to some awesome music. John is a one man band who will knock your socks off if you get a chance to see him preform. He was so kind to take a few minutes to answer my Q&A interview. Let's see what John had to say.
SM- Okay John- here ya go. Thanks again for the interview!!
SM- Give me a brief history of how you got into the music scene.
JP-I got into playing guitar when I was about 14 or 15. I started out learning with other musicians in a "band." It was more like a group of friends. I played with a few different bands from age 15 til about 22. I had a fall out with this one group I was in, and that sorta pushed me in to making music by myself. I started trying to write songs more for me than for a group. And eventually put it together into what I do now.
SM- Thank goodness for "fall outs" huh? Okay, In three words, describe your music style.
JP- Funk World Stew
SM- I've seen your live one-man band jams and they are amazing. How do you prepare for a show?
JP- Actually, I don't really prepare for a 4 hour club show at all. I wait to see who is going to be there. I never write a set list. And when I do, I never follow it. The only time I ever plan a show is when I am only given an hour or less(opening act, sharing a bill with another act). In that case, I usually try to compliment whoever else is playing that night.
SM- Cool, what is your favorite instrument to play?
JP- The skin flute :o) No really, acoustic guitar is by far my favorite instrument. It's so unforgiving and true. You can't fool it.
SM- That is true, the acoustic guitar makes a beautiful sound too! What do you like to do besides write, sing, and play music?
JP- I love all kinds of stuff: I'm a big football fan, Pittsburgh Steeler fan since 8th grade. I love to take my dog disc golfing, and to dog parks, pretty much anything we can do off-leash/outside. I like to lift weights. I watch a lot of comedy stuff(mostly movies, and stand-up). I really started getting into college basketball, as of late(since Bruce Pearl came to Tennessee). I've been to like 5 home games this year.
I like to drink really, really good Brown and Pale Ale's(preferably microbrewed). And, I like to bone.
Still the same funny guy from high school I see! Thanks a lot John.
