I for one am really in a confused state,I love American Idol but feel oddly disappointed this year,I mean don't get me wrong there are a few talented individuals, the key word is few.And what about Simon and Ryan with their battle of wits,do we really have to hear this each time they are on tv and sadly I think it's taking away from the contestants.
Last year I was indulged by the rocker sultry persuasion of Chris Daughtry, the bluesy affirmation of Taylor Hicks and the all American sweet subtle urges of Katharine McPhee as well as Bucky,Elliott,Ace and Kellie,we were wowed each time we heard them sing and it wasn't just one that out shined the other. And there was a nice difference of musical diversity, not just pop and this year that is what they are seeming to focus on unless it's just me but, I don't feel like I'm the only one that feels this way though.
I am seeing a huge lack of confidence in the contestants as well this year,do they all ready feel defeated?Do they feel like they can't stack up?I have watched the judges be more harsh this year than ever before in any other season. In Hollywood week the judges basically told them that if they do not know their words to their songs they were going home and they stuck by it,I think maybe they sent some of the better singers home personally.
That's a hard enough time pressure wise and the fear of not getting their words right was instilled in their head right off the bat making it feel more intimidating. So,the ones that did pull through and made the top 24 seemed to slack after that, again, maybe it's just me.
It's going to be a struggle this year harder and harsher judgment and not the best entertainment has shown through these contestants I think they need to push themselves and take chances on their songs, they need to be more confident and realize that thousands of people are watching them nationwide and not take it for granted. As of right now I can't really say that I have a favorite but the best vocal performance for me has been LaKisha Jones.
