Outdoor lacrosse is played with 10 players on the field. There's a goalie, 3 mid-fielders, 3 attacks, and 3 defenses. Defenders use a special lacrosse stick that is almost six feet tall which helps them defend the goal. There has to be at least 3 defenders and 3 attacks on each side of the field at all times or else it's an offside. The objective of the game is to score a goal in the opponent's goal using a lacrosse stick. The rest of the players use a 3 feet stick and the players on the team use strategy and passing in order to work the ball down the field and score on the goal.
There is physical contact in this sport. Players can use their body to put other players on the ground and use the stick to hit the opponent's stick or hands in order to steal the ball from them. The ball is rubber bounces very well. Lacrosse players are expected to sprint almost all the time on the field, and substitution occurs often on the sidelines during the game as players sprint back and forth constantly across the field. There are 4 quarters in each game with a long half time break. As the game includes physical contact, players have to wear protective gear such as the helmet, shoulder guards, elbow guards, gloves, cup, and mouthpiece. They may also wear rib guard or a stomach guard for extra protection.
This game involves lots of sprinting, communication, and strategy just like the other sports games. It's currently only played in certain countries in the world today, but the rate it is spreading and becoming known is incredible. More and more players are fascinated by this exciting sport and joining the fun. Many colleges in US already have a lacrosse team and certain states have lacrosse teams. Outdoor lacrosse is a spring sport, but players may also participate in indoor lacrosse which has slightly different rules in the fall. Lacrosse will continue to grow and attract more people in the future. It may be one of the most popular sport in the future that'll be known to everyone.
