Lactose Intolerance Diet: What Should You Eat?

Many people suffer from having lactose intolerance. Lactose intolerance is when there is the inability to be able to digest lactose properly. Lactose is a type of sugar that is found in milk and other dairy products. Your body cannot handle the sugars that are found in milk products. However, your body still needs the calcium that you get from milk and dairy products. So you will need to have a special lactose intolerant diet in order to find other ways to get the daily calcium that your body needs. Here are some of the things you should eat while being on a lactose intolerance diet:

Vegetables

Certain vegetables are high in calcium. They will help you in your lactose intolerance diet. If you need a good lactose intolerant snack, grab a handful of raw broccoli. Spinach is also a good source of calcium. Try having some kale in your lactose intolerant diet plan.

Cheese

Here is some good news for those people who are cheese lovers, and do not want to give up cheese simply because they are lactose intolerant. A person who has lactose intolerance can actually have some small portions of cheese as long as it is hard cheese. Hard cheese has smaller amount of lactose in them. They will not hurt your body as much. Examples of hard cheese you can have are Swiss, parmesan, and cheddar cheese.

Fruits

There are a few fruits that are really good in calcium and good lactose intolerant diet foods. Grab an orange for a nice treat. You can even find calcium fortified fruit juice in your regular grocery store. Those ways you can get even more calcium in your food diet. Rhubarb is also good for you to have if you are on a lactose free diet.

Milk Substitutes

Sometimes when you are cooking you really do need a milk product. There are milk substitutes on the market that you can buy. Have you tried soy milk? It can be an easy milk substitute to use when you are lactose intolerant. There is also rice milk that is good for your lactose intolerance diet too.

Other Foods

There are other various foods that are great for your lactose intolerance diet. If you like beans try legumes and pinto beans. Canned salmon is supposed to be very good for you too if you are lactose intolerant. A quick easy calcium loaded snack is almonds. Pack a sandwich bag of them to bring with you when you are on the go. Also try tofu because it is really good for you when you have lactose intolerance, and you need something interesting to eat on your lactose intolerance diet.
