Stefanie Joanne Angelina Germanotta (born March 28, 1986), a.k.a. Lady GaGa, is an American singer, songwriter, and musician. Born in New York Lady GaGa is an up-and-coming performer whose dance-pop debut album The Flame in 2008 is a chart-topping international hit. The theatrical recording artist Lady GaGa has undeniable talent and over-the-top costumes adds to her appeal.
From humble beginnings as a child musical prodigy, she could play the piano by ear at age 4, by 14 she was performing at open mike nights, and by 17 she was attending the prestigious NYU Tisch School of the Arts and honed her songwriting skills. Moving out she went to live in the Lower East Side and started performing downtown in the club scene. By age 20 Stefanie had a recording contract and her music producer was looking a for a good stage name. A comparison was made between her voice style and Queen's front man, Freddie Mercury. Taking a cue from Queen's futuristic-retro song "Radio Ga Ga," and Stefanie instantly became "Lady GaGa."
Relocating to Los Angeles, Lady GaGa in 2008 released her debut album The Flame with hit songs like "Just Dance" and "Poker Face" which garnished her a well deserve Grammy nomination for Beat Dance Recording. Her music has an electro-pop-rock mix and theatrical ballads with hints of inspiration from David Bowie, Grace Jones, Freddie Mercury, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Alice Cooper, and Debbie Harry of Blondie. Her outrages and dynamic persona on stage is like watching the best pop-rock-dance, psychedelic, burlesque-style, discothèque fantasy show.
Lady GaGa is a natural brunette and has on occasion performed with dark hair. But nothing compares to her semi-nude, plastic bubble outfit. Lady GaGa designs and makes many of her stage clothes and enjoys wearing anything that is tongue-in cheek, theatrical, and shocking. With today's tame non-theatrical musical shows out there, Lady GaGa has brought electro-glam-pop back into the airwaves with her vocals, piano, synthesizer, and gained a huge following worldwide.
Lady GaGa won two awards at the 52nd Grammy Awards on January 31, 2010. The song "Poker Face" won for Best Dance Recording and the album The Flame won for Best Electronic/Dance Album. At the Brit Awards Lady GaGa won Best International Female Solo Artist, Best International Breakthrough Artist, and Best International Album. At 23 she begins The Monster Ball world tour promoting her second album The Fame Monster. Lady GaGa has taken pop music, pop art, and pop fashion into a high fashion credibility that everyone is noticing and loving.

Great bio. I like it when a performer has actual talent and doesn't give into mainstream trends. It's a relief and art in motion.
