Lady Gaga AMA 2009

The Lady Gaga AMA 2009 performance was stunning. Of course, she is used to shocking the world, but that was hard to do in the wake of Adam Lambert's...strange...performance. She did do a stunning performance of her new hit "Bad Romance", of which the music video has become an international hit.

The most amazing thing about the Lady Gaga AMA performance was of course the artist's costumes. The backup singers were wearing something that could only be described as "indescribable", and she faced hermaphrodite rumors head-on by wearing a fake you-know-what in front of her lower area. I love it when stars play to the rumors and don't get offended by Hollywood trash talk!

The most disappointing thing about Lady Gaga and the AMAs is that she lost the T-Mobile Breakthrough Artist of the Year to a group called Gloriana. Now, I have never heard of Gloriana before, but I guess that she's a "breakthrough" star.

According to Utica OD.com, Gloriana is a Nashville-based band. They won the "On Your Side" award from Nationwide at the 2009 CMT Awards. Obviously we will be seeing more of this group.

I think we will be seeing more of her. She's been compared to Michael Jackson in that she's a phenomenal choreographer and has a very creative feel in her music videos. In fact, the music video for "Bad Romance" features a variety of scenes, including one where Lady Gaga and her backup dancers are in strange white costumes and dancing around pod-like coffins. The scene has been compared to that of Michael Jackson's "Thriller."

Lady Gaga's performance started out when the singer came out dressed in a flesh-colored body suit. She started singing "Bad Romance" and then transitioned in to "Speechless."

"Speechless" was written for her dad.

While singing "Speechless", she played a piano that was inside a glass box. She broke it open with her microphone and then played the piano. Her performance was stunning as ever, and few Gaga fans will be disappointed. It was nice to see an appropriate shock appeal - more of an "OMG she just broke glass with her microphone" rather than "OMG Adam Lambert just shoved a guys head into his crotch."

Lady Gaga...appropriately shocking. Adam Lambert - not so much.

The 2009 AMA performers brought forth a legacy that will be hard for performers in subsequent years to keep up with. It was an amazing night and one that not many will forget.
