Lady Gaga Disses Plastic Surgery, Dem Bones Are Her Own

In the May issue of Harpers Bazaar, the sensational Lady Gaga addresses her skinny bones and how they come out in her most creative moments. The "Born This Way" phenom also expresses a distinct dislike of plastic surgery, and claims to be channeling the late fashion designer, Alexander McQueen.

Derek Blasberg writes that the interview's only "tense" moments came when he talked to Gaga about the bones that stick out everywhere: shoulders, cheekbones, even temples. He wanted to know how long it takes the chameleon-like singer to get the makeup and prosthetics together for this dubious look.

"Well, first of all," Gaga announced, "they're not prosthetics. They're my bones."

She has always had those bones inside of her, but she's just "been waiting for the right time to reveal to the universe" who she truly is. Her bones protrude when she is inspired, Gaga claimed.

The "Bad Romance" star has no worries that her fans may try to achieve the bony maronie look through any kind of destructive method. Plastic surgery, she believes, is for the insecure.

On Singers:

"I have never had plastic surgery, and there are many pop singers who have. I think that promoting insecurity in the form of plastic surgery is infinitely more harmful than an artistic expression related to body modification."

Models and Actresses, Too

"And how many models and actresses do you see on magazine covers who have brand-new faces and have had plastic surgery, while I myself have never had any plastic surgery? I am an artist, and I have the ability and the free will to choose the way the world will envision me."

Lady Gaga also made the bizarre claim that the late fashion designer Alexander McQueen, who committed suicide on February 11, 2010, wrote "Born This Way" through her from heaven. When her record label decided to release the song on the exact day of the one-year anniversary of McQueen's death, Gaga knew "he planned the whole damn thing."

The best quote in the article is when the talk turns to Gaga's passions and financial success. Although she rates money below music and fame, she recognizes the power of her extremely healthy income (Forbes puts it at over $62 million per annum). "The true luxury of my success is that I can do it all on my own terms now, even though the roller-coaster ride is still going." But now, Blasberg suggests, she owns the roller coaster.

Lady Gaga's reply?: "I own the whole theme park, actually."

Her bones or not, this is one reasonably new artist who isn't an overpaid, flat-out bore. She pushes the envelope in interesting, often very funny ways. (She might have skipped the meat dress, though.)

I went back and check on that just to make sure I didn't read it wrong, Mark, and yeah -- it said 62 million a year! the Little Monsters are shelling out the Benjamins big-time

She makes $62 million a year? Wow. Just wow.
