Lollapalooza is underway at Grant Park in Chicago this weekend, August 6- 8th. Lady Gaga took to the stage on Lollapalooza 2010s opening night yet fans seem to be torn on whether the performance was good or not. And the media seems shocked and disappointed.

Lollapalooza is one of the hottest music festivals to take place anually. The festival features heavy metal, alternative, grunge, punk rock, hip hop and many other styles of music. According toDictionary.com, the meaning of the word lollapalooza means "an extraordinary or unusual thing, person, or event; an exceptional example or instance." Lady Gaga is a lollapalooza so it isn't surprising that she was going to play at Lollapaloooza 2010.

Lady Gaga's set started at 8pm Friday night and ran for a full two hours. A reviewer on Chicago's Metromix website said, "It's hard to say what was the most awesomely weird moment of Lady Gaga's two-hour set, a theatrical journey to a fabled "monster's ball" where everyone's free to be freaks." And then pointed out a few of the awesomely weird moments including Lady Gaga's flying nun headdress, her flaming boobs and crotch during the song "Paparazzi", and a very weird moment before singing her latest hit, "Alejandro", where she doused herself in fake blood and proceeded to weep to a statue of Jesus with angel wings.

Marcus Leschoc on Chicago Now disagrees with the Metromix reviewer and claims that the Lady Gaga Lollapalooza concert was a disappointment from the start. So bad that he left early with some other grumbling folks. He wrote about his anticipation and disappointment, "I fear that she's falling into the shock value trap - what is she wearing? What did she do? What did she say about Prop 8? What did she say about that immigration law in Arizona? I don't care what Lady Gaga thinks of any of those things, especially the way I live my own life. I care that she makes good music, and in this case, puts forth an entertaining live performance that will blow me away."

The Chicago Tribune's Greg Kot seemed to believe he was witnessing Lady Gaga's very own therapy session, "What gives the night a fascinating spin is her vivid recall of her 2007 set on a much smaller stage at the same festival. That memory of being ignored and misunderstood even as she played many of the same songs that would later become huge worldwide hits fuels her set. And so this becomes something of a live therapy session, positively fierce in moments, but an absolute drag in others."

Not Gaga for Gaga... It seems as if she is becoming more about image and shock value than about musicianship.
