Lady Gaga Law Suit: Rob Fusari Purports Contract Breach

Lady Gaga Sued by Rob Fusari

The Lady Gaga law suit, Rob Fusari Productions v. Team Love Child and Mermaid was filed with the New York Supreme Court on March 17, 2010 by Rob Fusari's attorney. He is suing two companies that represent Lady Gaga: Love Child and Mermaid Music and seeks 20 percent ($30 million) profit from the contract the above-mentioned parties signed in 2006.

Lady Gaga, aka Stefani Germanotta, is 23 (soon to be 24) and she is already worth millions. She became internationally recognized with her hit song "Just Dance" in 2008. Gaga's debut album The Fame was released 2008 and it has been uphill from there for Lady Gaga. However, Gaga has suffered the usual Hollywood backlash that often comes with fame. She has been accused of being a hermaphrodite. I wonder what ex-boyfriend/producer, Rob Fusari, has to say about that.

Rob Fusari "demands a trial by jury" to hear six claims of contract breach. Fusari purports that he collaborated with Lady Gaga on six tracks (including bonus tracks) that are on The Fame album, which was released in 2008.

Fusari would like to take credit for Stefani's stage name. According to his Complaint, when Gaga was contemplating her stage name, Fusari had inadvertently text her "Radio Gaga" (a song by Queen) but the text-corrector changed it to read "Lady Gaga." If Rob is awarded royalties for "accidentally" creating Stefani's stage name through his lawsuit; the text device, software and Queen should also get credit.

The Complaint "Background" is a rather pathetic story that seeks empathy for Rob Fusari. This should have been left out as it leads me to believe it is fluff to cover lack of facts or legal rights. If he collaborated with Lady Gaga, where is the proof; he is after all a music producer and cannot claim ignorance of this requirement.

Fusari may have had the right connections to help Lady get her foot in the door in 2006; however, her career really took off after she signed with Sony/ATV Music Publishing in 2007.

After reviewing the Complaint, my prediction of the Lady Gaga law suit is that Rob Fusari may win royalties from September 8, 2006 to May 30, 2007, when a new contract was signed.

Whatever the outcome, Lady Gaga will still be rich. Rob Fusari may not be much richer after suing Gaga but hopefully he will learn from his mistakes and be able to move on.

I don't see how he has any case here.
