Lady Gaga Meat Dress at 2010 VMAs a Shocker, but Not First Raw Meat Episode (Photo Link)
The Beatles 1966 Album "Yesterday and Today" Featured Raw Meat -but Not a Meat Dress
More shocking than the meat dress itself, is that Lady Gaga had in her possession one of Alexander McQueen's last creations, and she didn't wear it all the way through the Video Music Awards. I know she was going to do a clean sweep of the awards show, but I didn't know she would do a clean sweep of the gossip mills afterwards!
All the fashion madness aside, this is far from the first time that raw meat has been used to make a statement.
The Beatles released an album in 1966 called "Yesterday and Today." On the cover of the album, the men were dressed in butcher suits. They then covered themselves in chunks of raw meat and decapitated baby dolls. The album was quickly recalled, and as such if you find an album with this image on the front, hold on to it - it's rare and worth some $$$.
In fact, on January 4 of this year, there was an auction of a factory sealed version of this cover going on, and set to end at January 12 and was already selling for $9,100. Most of the albums had been returned to the record company, where they slapped a sticker over the offensive photo and sent the albums back to stores.
Lady Gaga also posed for the cover of a magazine in a meat bikini - which showed quite a bit more skin than her meat dress.
The Lady Gaga meat dress wasn't the first time that raw meat was used to make a statement, and it wasn't met with the outrage that the Beatles' cover was met with. We're less sensitive than we were in years past. A photo of the cover in question can be found here.
