Lady Gaga's Sex Confessions - and More!

There's no sensationalism in this article - just in the headlines!Lady Gaga claims she has opted for celibacy

Lady Gaga revealed recently that she's celibate and is telling her fans it's okay to say "no" to sex. On a new campaign to raise awareness of HIV and AIDS, the pop sensation of last year admits what she says is a surprise to come out of her mouth.

"I can't believe I'm saying this - don't have sex. I'm single right now and I've chosen to be single because I don't have the time to get to know anybody. So it's OK not to have sex, it's OK to get to know people. I'm celibate, celibacy's fine," she told The Mail on Sunday newspaper in the UK.

Considering her past statements ("I just sleep with the guys in the band because it's easier,' she once said) and song lyrics ("The way you're twirlin' up them hips, there's no reason at all why you can't leave here with me ...'), it might seem odd to hear Lady Gaga preaching restraint, but to be fair to her, what she's really advocating is a woman's right to choose.

"Something I do want to celebrate with my fans is that it's OK to be whomever it is that you want to be. You don't have to have sex to feel good about yourself, and if you're not ready, don't do it." ("And if you are ready," she adds, "there are free condoms given away at my concerts when you're leaving!")

Lady Gaga's message, she concludes, is having the confidence to stick to your guns.

"I remember the cool girls when I was growing up. Everyone started to have sex. But it's not really cool any more to have sex all the time. It's cooler to be strong and independent."

"When you're in the public eye, you're a role model whether you want to be or not. And I want to be," Lady Gaga says.

"I'm not one of those self-obsessed artists who don't care about their fans. It's not just about the music. I look out into the O2 and there are 18,000 screaming young people and I have a responsibility to them - and you're an idiot if you don't know that."

Most entertainers realize they have a responsibility to their fans and to making the world a better place. It is great to see Lady Gaga doing something worthwhile in conjunction with Cyndi Lauper to assist those less fortunate. Their idea is giving young women a chance to buy a product and help Mac Aids Fund.

Who is Lady Gaga?

Lady Gaga was born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta on March 28, 1986. She started her music career performing in the rock music scene of New York City's Lower East Side. Signing with Streamline Records, an imprint of Interscope Records, upon its establishment in 2007, she worked as a songwriter for fellow label artists and captured the attention of Akon, who recognized her vocal abilities, and had her also sign to his own label, Kon Live Distribution.

Her debut album, The Fame, released on August 19, 2008 reached number-one in Canada, Austria, Germany, and Ireland and topped the BillboardTop Electronic Albums chart. Its first two singles, "Just Dance" and "Poker Face", co-written and co-produced with RedOne, became international number-one hits, topping the Hot 100 in the United States and in other countries. The album later earned six Grammy Award nominations and won awards for Best Electronic/Dance Album and Best Dance Recording.

In early 2009, Lady Gaga scored opening support act gigs for New Kids on the Block and the Pussycat Dolls. She then performed her first headlining tour, The Fame Ball Tour. By the fourth quarter of 2009 she had released her second studio album The Fame Monster, with the global chart-topping lead single "Bad Romance". This prompted her second headlining tour for 2009 - The Monster Ball Tour.

Move over Pink, Lady Gaga is new kid on the block!

Too bad she can't change some of her song lyrics to stand behind what she is now saying about celibacy! This week she may say one thing, next week something else. Good background on her! :)

This is one singer that I am tired of hearing about and I don't think she knows who she is or what she is looking for in life.

  • Abby Greenhill4/22/2010

She's in a much different place and time than I am!

  • Tony Payne4/22/2010

I agree she is strange. A Madonna wannabee in my opinion, likely to fade away once the media hype moves on.
