Lady Gaga Stars at Grammy Awards by Hatching from an Egg

First of all, I'm an old guy who still mourns the passings of Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley and Ella Fitzgerald. I'm not thrilled by most of today's singers, but believe Lady Gaga is the most entertaining performer on any stage or screen today. Of course, she's an excellent singer, but her flair for unusual costuming has been the key to making her a super-star while she's still in her early 20s.

Lady Gaga made her grand entrance to the Grammys ceremonies Sunday night after being carried along Hollywood Boulevard and into the Kodak Theater by a quartet of half-naked male and female dancers. At first, the outrageously original rock star was totally enclosed in a giant plastic egg. Of course, it was air-conditioned to avoid any possibility of Gaga gagging before the grand opening.

Then, when it was her turn to belt out her hit song, appropriately named, "Born This Way", the egg opened slowly revealing the Gaga diva on silken cushions dressed in skin-tight yellow panties and bra. Those were barely covered by a transparent yellow skirt and scarf. In one hand was her microphone, and in the other a yellow hat. Singing in her husky voice, she managed to struggle out onto the stage, put on her hat and perch precariously on her eight-inch high heels. Then, joined by similarly dressed ... or undressed ... dancers and singers, she went into a vigorous song and dance number that had the Grammy audience screaming.

Before the Grammys on-stage programs, the E Entertainment TV channel put on a riotous show on the red carpet in front of the Kodak Theater. The area was literally swarming with Lady Gaga wanna-bes, all hoping to win the contest as the most authentic look alike.

Some critics mumbled that the arrival-in-the-egg trick was first introduced by Robin Williams as space alien Mork from Ork in the 1970s. However, he could have never done it with as much otherworldly flair and pizazz as the heavenly Lady Gaga did.
