Beats Out Angelina Jolie (Who Doesn't Make the List), Brad Pitt and Oprah

Lady Gaga has been hitting number one all year with her music but now she is also hitting the number one spot for most charitable celebrity. According to DoSomething.org's latest top 20 charitable celeb list, Lady Gaga took the number one spot because of her advocacy for the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" and for her large donations to the prevention of HIV/AIDs worldwide through the MAC Viva Glam campaign. She was also the host of Hands Up for Marriage Equality, an event supporting same-sex marriage.

Lady Gaga's advocacy has been well documented through out the year along with her sudden rise to fame through her eccentrically styled music. It is not surprising that the pop singer has landed the number one spot for being the most charitable celebrity. Although, it is surprising that she beat out Angelina Jolie who often ranks at number one for being the most giving celebrity.

Joining Lady Gaga on the list are several well known celebrities. Alicia Keyes is ranked at #2 for her work with Keep A Child Alive. Taylor Swift takes the number 3 spot for her work on flood relief in Nashville and for her work with Scholastic's Read Now program. Ranking at number four on the list is Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher for their launch of the DNA Foundation, an organization dedicated to wiping out child sex slavery and human trafficking.

Some other celebrities making the list include Matt Damon, Leonardo DiCaprio, Oprah, Justin Bieber and many more. Out of the list of the top 20 charitable celebrities Angelina Jolie is not on the list nor is her partner, Brad Pitt, although the couple has given over $1 million dollars to various charities.

Lady Gaga taking the number one spot is not shocking and should give us hope that next year she will give back even more. We can only speculate what the advocacy will be for next year though since "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" has officially been repealed. It is doubtful it will have anything to do with animal advocacy though if her meat dress at the 2010 MTV VMA's was any indication.
