Lady Gaga was a Walking Health Hazard in Her Meat Dress at the VMAs 2010

Lady Gaga's meat dress is most likely in a rancid heap somewhere by now, but it is still remains fresh in the headlines today. This dress was made from real cuts of meat, according to its designer, Franc Fernandez, as he proudly declared in an interview with MTV. The cuts of beef actually came from his family butcher.

This choice of attire had so many levels of just being "wrong," starting with the stance of the folks from PETA and ending with Gaga's unfortunate choice of exposing people to raw meat all evening and the serious health concerns that come along with this.

When interviewed about her reasons behind this, Gaga offered "I want people to know I am not just a piece of meat." She also said that the "country is having all its meat picked off the bones".

She also told Ellen Degeneres that "the dress had many interpretations," one being the military's treatment of gay people, according to the BBC. Apparently, Lady Gaga was not passionate enough about any one cause, so she bunched them together to explain her raw meat ensemble.

Raw meat is full of bacteria, and some can be deadly, according to the NDDIC. The bacteria would need to be ingested, but transferring that bacteria on your hand to something you pick up to eat can easily be done.

Did Gaga take this into consideration when exposing her fellow artists to this, or was she just thinking about all the attention she would get? Gaga hugged Cher and then handed her "the meat pocketbook," exposing her to every disease raw meat has to offer. Cher's clothes and hands became contaminated and, if she decided to have any food at the party after the VMAs, she could have transferred the bacteria to that food and then ate it.

Even if Cher had washed her hands, bacteria from that meat could have been on her clothes from a hug Gaga gave her, and Cher could have adjusted her outfit and transmitted the bacteria back onto her hands.

When Gaga took the microphone, which was to be used by many others throughout the night, she exposed others to this bacteria. Not to mention any chair that she sat in while in with her raw meat get up that could have been used by others. These actions could have spread the bacteria that raw meat is teaming with through out the VMAs.

The other piece up for discussion with Lady Gaga's raw meat outfit is the psychological factors behind doing this. While people may have been grossed out by being around a dress made of raw meat all night, Lady Gaga was wearing this. She had raw meat draped on her bare skin for the evening, or a good part of it. What does this say about the state of mind this young woman was in?

Many people are uncomfortable when touching raw red meat, never mind dressing in it. You have to wonder if Gaga is psychologically sound in doing this.

More than likely, it was an attention-getter spawned by her recent Vogue Japan photo shoot, as shown in the NY Daily News. She was draped in raw red meat for those pictures, creating a media stir. It is most likely that Gaga liked this controversy and carried it to the VMAs as a "look at me," shock-value type of presentation.

What ever her real reasons for wearing a get-up of raw red meat were, it was a very selfish decision on her part. She was a walking health hazard that evening, but apparently she just didn't care.
