Lady Gaga's Meat Dress at MTV VMA's Bound to Upset PETA

"And, I Am Not a Piece of Meat!"- Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga has outdone herself yet again by wearing a meat dress to MTV's Video Music Awards 2010. Lady Gaga's meat dress included a dress, boots, hairpiece and matching purse to complete the ensemble. But I'm not sure if the meat dress is fashion forward or a fashion faux-pax. PETA, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, never shy away from controversy and have made it clear that they were upset with Lady Gaga's first meat dress choice which appeared on the cover of Vogue Hommes Japan. Although, that really wasn't a dress but more of a meat bikini with matching bracelet and hairpiece accessory.

According to PETA president, Ingrid Newkirk, on Gaga's front page of Vogue Hommes Japan,"Oh, Lady Gaga's job is to do outlandish things, and this certainly qualifies as outlandish because meat is something you want to avoid putting on or in your body." With Lady Gaga's follow up outfit at the MTV VMA's it is highly doubtful that the celebrity pop star will be advocating anything for PETA in the near future or even the far future.

According to USA Today, Lady Gaga's meat dress was explained to Ellen Degeneris, a long time vegan, by the pop star in an interview for the Ellen show's season opener. Lady Gaga told Ellen, "Well, it is certainly no disrespect to anyone that is vegan or vegetarian. As you know, I am the most judgment-free human being on the earth. However, it has many interpretations but for me this evening. If we don't stand up for what we believe in and if we don't fight for our rights pretty soon we're going to have as much rights as the meat on our own bones. And, I am not a piece of meat."

Ellen then presented the pop star with a bikini made of vegetables and told Lady Gaga that is she wanted to make a statement she should try wearing the veggie bikini instead.

I have my doubts that PETA would approve of any reason for wearing a meat dress or meat bikini. Some of Lady Gaga's other outfits at MTV's VMA's included a gorgeous gown created by the late Alexander McQueen that was bold, regal and queenly, and a sexy strapless leather dress also designed by McQueen. It was a good night for Lady Gaga with or without the controversy of the meat dress. All in all, the outlandish pop singer won a total of 8 wins. She also thanked the late designer after her first win in her acceptance speech. Gaga's newest album Born this Way is set to be released in Spring 2012.

I've been a vegetarian for five years, and I wasn't bothered by it. I think PETA gets bent out of shape about the wrong things. Now they had an attitude about Lady Gaga wearing a meat dress but I haven't heard them raise any hell about Mario shouting out people wearing fur coats although he posed for PETA's "Ink, Not Mink" ads. If they want to be mad, they need to be mad about the people they present to the world. *shaking my head* As far as Ellen, I wish she would've paid more attention to Lady Gaga supporting repealing the DADT policy, especially considering Ellen is openly homosexual. Priorities, folks. *sigh* Anyway, I enjoyed the entry.

I'm glad she didn't encounter any dogs on her way to the awards' show!

The meat dress was a creative idea, but it looked like scraps. It just wasn't tasteful. I prefer her to wear a cleaner looking dress like the one I saw on The Today Show, which was made out of candy.
