Lafayette Farmers Market at Festival Plaza in Lafayette, Colorado
Direct from Local Colorado Farms to Your Table
Lafayette, CO 80026
United States of America
The Lafayette Farmers Market was started in the summer of 2008 when local citizens, farmers, and businesses approached the Lafayette City Council asking for an outlet for locally produced goods. Lafayette residents expressed a desire for fresh, locally grown goods. Local farmers needed a venue that would allow them to sell directly to consumers with minimal city regulations. From these Lafayette City Council meetings was born the Lafayette Festival Plaza and the new home of the Lafayette Farmers Market.
The Lafayette Farmers Market now provides a whole host of locally produced goods. One can spy an abundance of fresh produce, bedding plants, cooking herbs, and baked goods while strolling through the vendor booths. While most farmers come from the Lafayette area, growers from Erie, Lyons, Greeley, Frederick, Niwot, Wiggins, Longmont, and Boulder do attend the market. All items at the market must be either grown locally or in Colorado.
Vendors strive for sustainable production practices and try to utilize organic growing methods. Farmers however cannot label their products as organic if they do not have a certified organic farm. Ask the grower about their production methods if you have any questions.
Freshly prepared foods and baked goods are available from vendors. One can find artisan breads, pastries, pasta, and tamales. Those with gluten sensitivity can find gluten-free goods offered. Locally roasted coffee is available for purchase.
Looking for a light snack or dinner? Food booths that cook food at the market are located in the parking lot area behind the old Chamber of Commerce Bldg. Food vendors have included The Giggling Greek and Hanna's Specialty Foods and Delicatessen.
While the main focus of the Lafayette Farmers Market is locally grown products, there are a few local craft booths, face painting for the kids, and food sampling booths. Vendors can vary from week to week.
No ready cash for your purchase? No need to worry. The Lafayette Farmers Market organizers can take credit cards at a central scanner and issue you Market Bucks for your purchases. The Market Bucks can be used at any of the vendors and are good for the entire '09 season. They can also take WIC and Food Stamp cards.
