Lafayette Florist is more than just a floral business. It is a floral, gardening and gift center all in one convenient Lafayette location. The entrepreneurial Yoshihara family started Lafayette Florist in 1949 after their release from a Colorado Japanese Relocation Camp. What started out as a family vegetable farm is now a third generation family business with modern greenhouses, a 70,000 sq. ft. garden center, and is staffed by 40 employees.

Lafayette Florist has everything the home gardener could want. Those wanting to spruce up the home landscape will find a nice selection of annuals, perennials, bushes, and select trees. Many plants are Plant Select™ varieties so they will thrive in our Rocky Mountain environment. For the water gardener, they have a variety of plants that will survive our harsh climate.

If you need vegetable garden plants, Lafayette Florist is the place to start. They have a large variety of plants to choose from and they come in several sizes. You can either buy a nice big tomato plant for five dollars or buy a smaller one for a dollar and grow it yourself. The plants are very healthy and seldom die when hardened off and transplanted correctly.

Colorado soil is known to be poor in organic matter so they offer a variety of soil amendments to get those plants off to a great start. Add one of their mulches on top of the soil and you'll save a bundle on your water bill. They carry a variety of products that will help acidify our alkaline soil such as soil sulfur, and cottonseed meal.

Organic gardeners and those who aren't will find what they need in the vast selection of natural and synthetic herbicides, pesticides and fertilizers. They sell beneficial insects and their egg casings for natural insect control. If you like to get dirty, Lafayette Florist has an extensive selection of tools for pruning, weeding, planting, and watering.

It's hard to beat the service at Lafayette Florist. Expect to be greeted as you enter the door and asked if you need any help as you wander the store. They really do want to answer any plant or gardening questions. Lafayette Florist hosts CSU Master Gardeners on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 10am - 4pm from May through July to answer your Colorado gardening needs.

There are extra benefits to shopping at Lafayette Florist. Bring an old milk jug with you on your next trip and fill it up from the liquid fertilizer tank in the greenhouse. It's free. They also have a punch card program. For every 10 punches, they'll give you $5.00 off their merchandise. Tuesdays are double punch days.

The staff also participates in the Lafayette community. During the 2002 drought, the CEO participated on the City of Lafayette drought advisory board for help in drafting watering restrictions. Lafayette Florist stocked many items to help residents plants survive and provided educational watering tips and guidelines.
