Lahore, Pakistan Restaurants: Yummy's 36 Restaurant Chain
Neighborhood: Defence
Yummy's 36 is a popular chain of ice cream parlors and family restaurants in Lahore. They have several locations throughout the city, including H block market in Defence, Qaddafi Stadium, and Liberty Market among others. Yummy's offers affordable family dining and quick service in a kid-friendly atmosphere.

Menu - Pakistani, Chinese & Continental

The new menu at the Defence H block branch boasts a wide variety of soups, light lunches, burgers, steaks, and entrees. Yummy's seems to be having a bit of identity crisis with its eclectic offerings from French Onion Soup to Thai Soup, Chicken A La Kiev to "Mangolian Chicken", a stir-fried chicken dish with sesame seeds, mushrooms and vegetables. The menu certainly offers a lot of variety, but diners should beware not to think of the "Yummy's Light Diet" section as something for the diet conscious. Including Golden Crisp French Fries, Garlic Bread, Chicken Wings, Paratha Roll, and Finger Chicken, this section should merely be thought of as smaller dishes rather than low-fat fare.

The Light Diet Items, burgers and sandwiches go for between 50 rupees to 190 rupees. Sandwiches and burgers are served with cole slaw and French fries, so you won't be hungry if you order one of meals. Take note that cheese on burgers in 15 rupees extra and must be specified when you place your order. Main entrees cost between 200 and 350 rupees, the most expensive items being the sizzling steaks. Yummy's also has a wide variety of delicious ice-cream flavors and sundaes, which is what they are most famous for.

Ambiance & Service

The feel of the restaurant is something like a McDonald's or Burger King in America. Families see Yummy's as a reliable place to eat out, but not a fancy place to get dressed up for. It is best for an impromptu meal out with friends while shopping, but certainly not the place for a date or an evening on the town. Most Yummy's locations are large and offer both table and booth seating. On Friday and Saturday nights, you can expect a large crowd of children, most of whom are not being watched closely by parents.

The service at Yummy's is to be commended, although it may be a bit overwhelming for foreigners to have so many waiters asking you if want anything else and trying to help you. Food and ice-cream is usually quite quick from the kitchen, so you shouldn't have to spend too much time waiting.

Yummy's 36 is a reliable place to stop for ice cream on a quick day or grab a quick bite to eat while shopping. The cuisine is not that exciting, but it's a good place to bring kids for burgers or some local fare.

Not sure why Pizza Hut doesn't give out any good coupons in Pakistan, and yes their prices do seem high compared to the lower cost of living.

I'll second Mimpi's suggestion! :o) I have a much better idea of what things are like in Pakistan reading your essays (and you keep making me wish there's a Pakistani restaurant nearby!).

You have excelled as a true travel journalist and I do wish you to publish all the compilations in a book. That would be perfect guide, I am sure.

This place sounds like a lot of similar Thai fast food places - I like the sounds of the Mangolian Chicken :-)
