Laid Off? Need a Job? Wear a Bracelet

Debbie Lamedman
You know those ubiquitous yellow bracelets that started with Lance Armstrong's Live Strong, and now promote causes ranging from breast cancer to your child's soccer league fund? Well, another one has come down the pike, but this time the cause is YOU! The new wristband in town is for the unemployed. The band reads "Laid off. Need a Job." It's one of those ideas that you wish you would have thought of yourself because it's so simple, yet so brilliant.

These bracelets are the brainchild of Barbara Bourn and Stephanie Aucoin of Sarasota FL. Both women have been affected by the declining economy. Their business struggles pushed them to think outside of the box and come up with this innovative idea. In doing so, they are not only helping themselves, they are also helping many other unemployed folks across the country.

The bracelets are being sold for $3 a piece, and can be ordered from the women's website at www.laidoffneedajob.com The testimonial page on the website is brimming with stories of how the bracelets have helped individuals either find work, or find opportunities to speak with someone about a job. According to the website, the bands are not only sweeping the nation, but are also going global with orders and news stories coming in from as far away as the UK.

"People are getting over the stigma, 'I'm laid off, and I have to wear a bracelet..." Barbara explained. "We're all in the same boat together and a lot of people are banding together to help..."

Barbara and Stephanie originally started this endeavor by ordering 500 bracelets and handing them out to friends and family, who, as Stephanie said, "loved them." Because of their initial success with the bands, they continued with their venture and now they are amazed at how fast this trend is catching on.

"I hope nobody ever has to wear the bracelet," says Barbara, "but the truth of the matter is they do. We certainly don't want to see them wearing it. But in a year from now...I don't know...we're going so fast, right now we haven't had time to think a year down the road, because this is just moving so fast, we're just trying to keep up with it day to day."

Hopefully, this economy will start shaping up and people will begin to find work. And if people start finding jobs because of these bracelets, we'll all know who to thank!

If you're interested in purchasing a bracelet or becoming a distributor, visit Barbara and Stephanie's website for information.

Thank God my wife and I are both still employed. I don't know what we would do if even one of us lost our job.

Too many people are out of work. President Obama, send me some money, please. Seriously, we can't rely on the government very much any more. So go to work for the bracelet manufacturing companies! What an interesting idea, and the article is interesting also.

This bracelet thing has gotten out of hand. However, if someone in need of money can make a buck in this economy, and the people who buys these bracelets put worth in them, OK, more power to them.

It's an interesting concept. Even more interesting to me is the wide variety of topics that Ms. Lamedman has written about. I would like to read more of her work. Keep the articles coming, and keep up the good work. You are a very talented writer.
