L'Air Du Temps by Nina Ricci: Classic Perfume Review

Allison West
When you think of the great fragrances of the eighties, which scent springs to mind? You might recall perfumes like Enjoli, Windsong, Emeraude and the popular fragrance Giorgio Beverly Hills, a strong, overpowering smell which symbolized an era of conspicuous consumption. For me, the seventies and eighties are encapsulated by a lovely, timeless perfume that was my signature scent during that time: L'Air Du Temps by Nina Ricci. Fortunately, L'Air Du Temps by Nina Ricci is considered a classic perfume that never goes out of style and it's still available today.

Here are some reasons why you should consider wearing or giving the lovely timeless fragrance L'Air Du Temps.

My Experience with L'Air Du Temps by Nina Ricci

I'll never forget my first experience with the unforgettable fragrance L'Air Du Temps by Nina Ricci. In the late seventies, I was not quite a teenager when my sister, who was studying fashion design, started filling our house with stacks of fashion magazines. The back of one of these magazines had an offer to purchase miniature bottles of "great designer fragrances" of the time. When my bottles came I displayed the miniatures of scents like Chloe and Opium by Yves St. Laurent on my dresser; however, I fell in love with L'Air Du Temps by Nina Ricci and it quickly became my all time favorite.

My L'Air Du Temps by Nina Ricci miniature was a detailed reproduction of the classic bottle designed by Lalique for L'Air Du Temps, a gorgeous bottle with two doves on the top. I felt so grown up dabbing the ladylike yet alluring scent of L'Air Du Temps on my wrists, and as soon as I could, I purchased a bigger size of this amazing fragrance. I can't even remember how many bottles of L'Air Du Temps I've gone through over the years, and I also enjoyed using the L'Air Du Temps Gentle Body Wash and Body Lotion.

I wore L'Air Du Temps by Nina Ricci all through my high school years, college and my first jobs after college graduation. I got interested in other fragrances over the years, but I've always included L'Air Du Temps in my perfume wardrobe. L'Air Du Temps by Nina Ricci was created in 1948 by the fashion designer Nina Ricci, and while there may have been some slight changes to the formulation over the years, the fragrance is as beautiful today as when I first started wearing it many years ago. I've noticed that the more expensive Eau de Parfum spray bottle of L'Air Du Temps by Nina Ricci usually has the two doves on the top, and Eau de Toilette is packaged in a white bottle with gold trim and the two doves embossed on the packaging.

What makes L'Air Du Temps by Nina Ricci so timeless and unforgettable? This floral spicy perfume has notes of jasmine, sandalwood, rose, gardenia, iris and spicy carnation. I also love the symbolism of doves on L'Air Du Temps by Nina Ricci; I'm not sure I really understood the symbolism when I was young, but now that I'm more into spirituality, I appreciate how this perfume with its imagery of doves represents beauty, joy, peace, love, serenity, and oneness. To this day, I've had people ask me what was that unforgettable scent I wore in college, as it was so beautiful and distinct.

L'Air Du Temps blends with the body chemistry of the wearer to produce a unique scent that is different on each woman who chooses to wear it. The amazing scent of L'Air Du Temps by Nina Ricci and beautiful graceful packaging make it an ideal gift for women of all ages. I also appreciate how L'Air du Temps has a certain delicacy and subtlety that never overpowers the wearer, making it appropriate for work, daytime events or evening. L'Air Du Temps by Nina Ricci also has a nice retro feel that always takes me back to earlier decades like the seventies and eighties, while still being a very relevant fragrance for modern times.

Where to Buy L'Air Du Temps by Nina Ricci

L'Air Du Temps by Nina Ricci isn't always that easy to find these days, but it's definitely out there in the marketplace. Type the phrase "L'Air Du Temps by Nina Ricci" in a popular search engine to find quite a few online vendors of this perfume. Recently, I was delighted to find a few bottles of L'Air Du Temps by Nina Ricci Eau de Toilette Travel Spray at my local Wal-Mart superstore in the ladies fragrance aisle. I purchased this travel spray of L'Air Du Temps for $27, and it was quite a generous bottle (1 fl. oz).

Macys.com also sells L'Air Du Temps by Nina Ricci; at Macy's, the L'Air Du Temps Eau de Parfum Spray 1.7 oz. is $64, and L'Air Du Temps Perfumed Bath and Shower Gel 6.7 oz. is $36.

I'm so happy that many people identify me with my signature perfume L'Air Du Temps, and proud to display my L'Air Du Temps by Nina Ricci in my bedroom and bath as powerful symbols of my femininity. If you are looking for a signature fragrance or trying to find the ideal fragrance gift for that special person, consider L'Air Du Temps by Nina Ricci. I think you'll be enchanted by L'Air du Temps and its lovely inviting fragrance, pretty packaging and timeless appeal.

Used to wear it...maybe I should try again

A lovely tribute to a wonderful perfume. I have worn this and loved it at the time, but I found it to be a "bit too floral for me". Unfortunately, my favorite perfume - Guerlaine Mitsuko - is way beyond my current budget. If I can't wear it, I won't wear any! I am so happy that you have found L'Air Du Temps to be a perfume you adore.
