Lake Casitas Recreation Area in Southern California
Fishing, Hiking, Boating, Bicycling, Water Play, and Camping at Its Best
RV & Tent Camping
There are 12 distinct campgrounds available to choose from to match your camping preferences. Locations vary from remote hideaway sites nestled beneath trees or hillsides, to centrally located sites near bathrooms, showers, playgrounds, or the lake. RV and tent rentals are available to make your next camping trip as convenient as can be. There is a 2-night minimum (Friday/Saturday) on weekends and a 3 or 4-night minimum on holidays. Reservations can be made 180 days in advance and are recommended. A map of the campgrounds is available online. During the summer, the park shows free family movies on a big screen.
Casitas Water Adventure Park
The park features a water playground area with a jungle gym, bridges, waterfalls, wheels, slides, and interactive play activities in water 18" deep for toddlers and children under 12. Adults and children can also enjoy a leisurely afternoon floating on inner tubes as slow-moving currents carry them along a scenic "lazy river". The water park season opens in May. Check the website for the latest prices .
Lake Casitas
Swimming on the lake is not allowed since Lake Casitas is a drinking water supply. However, boating and fishing are allowed. Boats must be inspected and there is a 10-Day Quarantine period that can be completed either inside or outside the Recreation Area. Boats rentals including paddle boats, kayaks, canoes, fishing boats and pontoons are available at the lake concessions. For your convenience, there are four floating restroom stations in the 2,700-acre lake.
Known for its bass fishing, Lake Casita is home to four out of the ten largest bass ever caught, and to a variety of rainbow trout, crappie, red-ear sunfish, bluegill, and channel catfish. Shoreline night fishing until 11 pm is available on select weekends with weather permitting and a full moon to provide lighting. The Bait and Tackle Shop rents poles and tackle, and sells fishing licenses.
Bike/Hiking Trails
If you don't plan to jog or walk the Shoreline Lake Trail, you can rent suspension mountain bikes, three-wheeler bikes, or two sizes of quadricycles, or bring your own. While out for a ride or hike, keep your eyes open for the wildlife: herons, foxes, egrets, and deer.
Model Air Strip
Bring your model air plane to launch your model planes from the Model Air Strip by the lake.
Marina Café
Don't feel like cooking over a portable gas grill or on an open fire pit? Stop by Marina Café for lunch or breakfast and sit underneath a shaded deck overlooking the marina.
