There are many things to take into consideration when you are looking for a suitable vacation rental. Some people just automatically think of hotel rooms for vacation. This is not the only option. Many locations have rental companies that rent out houses, condos, or apartments for short term use.
A house, apartment, or condo can be a good choice if you are traveling with a group or with your family. These options give you the convenience of more privacy, home like amenities and more comfortable accommodations.
No matter what your preferences or budget, you should be able to find a suitable Lake Hubbard vacation rental. There are may factors to consider before you begin your search. You have to decide your budget, the size home you need, the number of people, if pets will be traveling with you, the general location you desire and the amenities you want.
You must also do some research to ensure that you are dealing with a reputable company or individual. There are some basic things that you can do to protect yourself and your vacation.
The first thing is to read the company's policies. These policies should cover anything that you would need to know about the rental. This should include the policy for deposits, cleaning, key pickup and drop off, how to handle maintenance problems, cancellation policies, what is included in the rental price and the pet policy.
Once you have read the policies, the next thing you should do is call to get references. These should include other property renters and possibly a caretaker who can attest to the condition of the property. If you are dealing with an individual and the property is in a location with a Home Owner's Association, it is important to contact the HOA to verify that the person you are dealing with is the owner of the property.
It is not good enough to just ask for references, you must call the references and ask any questions that you feel are important. If any company cannot provide at least 3 references for a property, I would not deal with that company.
It is very important to get a completed copy of the rental agreement before you send any money. This agreement should include the arrival and departure dates, the name of the property and all rental and other fees associated with the rental. The amount and due date of the deposit should also be included in this agreement.
When making a deposit payment, it is always better to use a credit card instead of a debit card, check, money order or money transfer. Credit cards offer more protection in the event of a scam. PayPal is an acceptable option but, credit cards still offer more protection.
I do want to warn you against dealing with any company or individual who wants you to send the deposit via money transfer such as Western Union or Money Gram. This is often but, not always a scam.
To make things easier for you, here are 3 websites that I recommend to make your search easier. These sites are all third party sites that are like online classifieds. Owners and agents list the property and then you can get their contact information.
The first site is ForGetaway!, which is owned by the Weather Channel. On this site, you can search by property options, amenities offered, or location type. This site offers a link to some fraud prevention tips.
Next is Vacation Rentals. This site is great if you have pets because you can refine your search to include only pet friendly properties.
Last is my personal favorite, Great Rentals. This site offers a payment guarantee that offers a little extra protection. I have used this site and I have never been scammed by the property owners that i did business with that I found on this site.
Good luck in your search for a Lake Hubbard vacation rental. Remember to have fun and to always stay safe.
