At the far end of the lake you can visit the boat docks to rent a boat for a few hours or to purchase snacks and bait. There are quite a few different styles of boats available to rent from canoes to pontoons and of course, the paddle boats. The rates are reasonable and affordable. The boats are maintained very well, and the lake is large enough to spend an entire day drifting around.
A favorite activity of mine is the beautifully maintained Bird sanctuary. It is not uncommon to see a variety of ducks and swans peacefully swimming around. Sand Hill Cranes are also common, to watch these graceful creatures fish and roam around is a peaceful and relaxing way to spend any afternoon. The bird sanctuary was created by a local youth as an Eagle Scout project for boy scouts. There are several benches and picnic tables in this area for your enjoyment.
Lake Logan sometimes gets a bad rap from some of the locals. Rumors abound about the contents of the lake. I think you have this in all small towns. Lake Logan is not as dirty as you might imagine, and any litter and debris is at the hands of lazy and irresponsible visitors who simply can't be bothered to clean up after themselves and use one of the numerous trash receptacles that the staff provides.
Lake Logan is one of the most popular fishing spots in Hocking County, there are huge catfish in the lake, which not only help keep the waters clean by eating anything that reaches the bottom, but they are also great to eat themselves. As I am not an avid angler I do not know what other fish are in this lake. In the summer months fishing tournaments are held on site.
Lake Logan also has a concession stand with vending machines and a pay phone on the beach as well as restrooms. Because of funding issues there hasn't been a lifeguard on duty for a while, but this is still a great place to take the kids to swim as long as you are prepared to pay close attention to your little ones to insure their safety.
On a boring day in Logan, head out to the beach of Lake Logan. Enough activities are available to keep you entertained, and best of all, as long as you are not renting a boat this is an absolutely free activity.
