Lake Rudolph Campground and RV Resort Review

A Rental RV Review

Janet Trieschman
You might be familiar with Holiday World in Santa Claus, Indiana. If you have been you will realize there aren't a lot of options for places to stay the night. One option you might not be aware of is the Lake Rudolf Campgrounds right next door to Holiday World. You might be like us thinking a campground was for those with tents or Rvs. That is not the case, Camp Rudolf also has rental cabins and rental Rvs.

During our visit to southern Indiana, we chose to rent from Lake Rudolf. It is a very popular place and our only option for the size of our party was a King sized RV often referred to as the deluxe RV. We had eight in our party consisting of two families; two sets of parents and four little girls. We were concerned about the space being limited but we found that not to be true. We had ample space.

The layout of the RV was a queen size bed, a king sized bed and four single beds. The couch also folded out to a bed but we didn't have need for it. Our youngest daughter is still in a crib and we brought a portable crib with us and there was room at the end of the king sized bed to place her crib. There were one and a half bathrooms and a fully functioning kitchen. Outside we had a picnic table, a grill and fire pit. There was enough grassy area around our RV for the girls to play outside. Fortunately, our RV was at the end of a lane giving us a bit more privacy.

Lake Rudolph had quite a few amenities and activities that one could fulfill a day with events and not attend the park. There was a lake with fishing and paddleboats. Miniature golf was free. Each day they offered a craft or activity for children in various ages for a nominal fee. Each evening there was a free family movie. Wi-fi connection is also free throughout the campgrounds. The pool was a popular place as was many of the playgrounds. The campgrounds had a camp store providing necessary forgotten items as well as many toys and games kids would desire. There was a small game room. Golf cars were available for daily rental, which made getting around the grounds much easier. Free shuttle service was available for those attending Holiday World

We did encounter a few negatives. The RV rocked when we walked and anyone lying down really felt the movement making it difficult for the kids to go to sleep while the parents stayed up. The closest shuttle stop to our campsite was so far we would have had to drive to it and there was no parking around the pick up site. The outside of the RV was rather dirty and weatherworn making us fear for what we would find inside. But, I have to say we were pleasantly surprised by the nice quality of the interior. Having shared the RV between two families it as a bit of a burden to only have one key to the unit. Upon asking for another we were told there was only one key per rental. There are no Tvs in any of the rentals.

Be warned there are many items you will need to bring with you. The campgrounds do not provide linens or towels, which you will need to bring with you. I highly recommend a rope to hang up outside for a clothesline so that you can hang towels to dry. And you will need additional towels if you plan to attend Splash'in Safari. I would also recommend a few folding camping chairs. They work great around the fire ring as well as having enough room inside the RV for an additional chair near the couch making conversations more comfortable.

Overall we had a great time and a wonderful stay. Should we plan to attend again I wouldn't hesitate to rent from the Lake Rudolph campgrounds again. It was great being able to eat a few meals in our rental RV as well as having space to spread out and allow the kids to play. They loved the bunk beds and had a great time playing in the RV as well as outside the unit.
