Lamentations II

Lamentations II

I. I
am the one
who stares back
from the shadows
in the mirror
when you investigate
your blemishes.

I. I
am the one
who whispers the thoughts
half heard as you drift
into sleep.

I. I
am the one
who remembers the names
you have forgotten, names
like Kepler and Brahe -
the one who remembers
the names they forgot -
Aristsarus the Greek,
Berosus the Chaldean.

I. I
am the one
who honors the gods
you have denied; worse,
blasphemed into new skeletons
and I alone remember the truth
of trolls as they walk unseen
amongst you each day - in sooth
a troll myself though you
in modern rejections have forgot.

I. I
am the one
who speaks of the dead
for the dead
to you who are become dead.

I. I
am your memory and I
recall all that you once knew -
will you remember the silent howl
of your histories rising up
through the timeless deserts
of your past?

Will you remember? Or
are you destined to learn,
to forget again, and learn
once more the lessons you
already know?
