LaMichael James to Return to Oregon in 2011

Oregon running back LaMichael James announced this week he will return to the team for his junior season in 2011.

James turned in an impressive 2010 season, winning the Doak Walker Award as the nation's best running back and finishing as a consensus All-American and a finalist for the Heisman Trophy.

"I came to the University of Oregon to get a quality education as well as to play football, and feel I have yet to complete that goal," said James, who was a Pac-10 Conference first-team all-academic selection.

James finished his sophomore season at Oregon with 1,682 rushing yards, best in the nation and just 40 yards short of Jonathan Stewart's single-season school record of 1,722, set in 2007. James can best Stewart's record mark by topping 40 yards during the 2011 BCS National Championship game, in which the Ducks face Auburn at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

He has 3,228 career yards, leaving him just 68 yards shy of Oregon's career rushing record in less than two full seasons of play. Derek Loville is the school's standard-bearer for career rushing yards with 3,296 from 1986 to 1989.
