On Tuesday, February 7, 2012, Rolling Stone Magazine reported that Lana Del Rey would be postponing her debut tour after her ill-received performance on Saturday Night Live. As a fan of Lana Del Rey's music, I can honestly say I agree with her decision to postpone her tour. Here is a look at why postponing her tour is a positive move for the sultry singer.
Time to Hone in on Her On-Stage Performances
Lana Del Rey's recorded songs have a unique quality to them. Del Rey's voice is deep and sultry, and her songs have a definite pulse to them. Her performance on Saturday Night Live did not capture Del Rey's full potential. I believe her less than stellar performance on Saturday Night Live can be chalked up to nerves and inexperience on the live stage. Give Lana Del Rey some time to improve her live performances and she'll be ready to take on the music industry.
Some Much Needed Distance from the 'SNL' Issue
In my opinion, the further Lana Del Rey and her management can distance themselves from the Saturday Night Live performance, the better. Lana Del Rey is a talented artist that deserves better recognition than she has received as of yet from the public at large. Once she distances herself a bit from her Saturday Night Live performance she will be able to show the public how truly talented she is.
Time to Develop More Music
A small hiatus from the spotlight will give Lana Del Rey a chance to develop her sound and create more music. While I am extremely excited for her debut tour, I think it is a very positive move for the singer to postpone going on the road. She has a very unique sound, and if given some downtime, I am sure that Del Rey could come up with even better songs than she has already released.
The Saturday Night Live incident has proven that the line "Any press is good press" is true. Prior to watching Saturday Night Live, I hadn't heard the name Lana Del Rey. Her performance prompted me to watch her music videos online, and I realized how under-whelming her performance on Saturday Night Live was.
