Among the best destinations in the area is The Sherman House. General Sherman was born and raised in Lancaster Ohio before going on to his glory in the Civil War. His childhood home is beautifully preserved and open as a museum. This is a lovely home along with a valuable and inexpensive history lesson.
In historic downtown Lancaster many weekend activities are held, such as concerts on weekends. This is a fun way to get out and mingle as well as listen to some live music of varying styles. A walk through the area is also a lovely activity. The architecture is impressive, there is a great fountain to observe and maybe toss a penny into, while making a wish. There are hills in the area so be advised if you are not overly active.
Rising Park and Cenci Lake are two great public places to enjoy a picnic, a frolic on the playground, or an opportunity to feed the friendly water fowl such as ducks and Canadian Geese. You can fish at either location also.
Dining does not take a back seat in Lancaster. There are quite an assortment of standard and unique restaurants. From your average McDonald's and Tim Horton's to hidden gems like Castaways and La Cascada. There is a restaurant to please every member of your family in Lancaster, Ohio.
This city is well spaced out, residents are friendly, and in my opinion this is one of the loveliest places in Ohio. Lancaster has all of the conveniences of a much larger city without as much crime, in a relatively quiet atmosphere.
There are so many things to do in Lancaster, Ohio I could not begin to do the city justice with such a short article, but I would highly recommend that anyone who is looking to take a stay cation, or a retreat to a nice place in this crazy world to consider visiting Lancaster. This area is especially lovely in the autumn with its close proximity to the Hocking Hills region, I hope you will consider visiting and creating your own Lancaster, Ohio memories.
