Lance Cpl. David Motari, USMC, Punished for Killing a Puppy

Conduct Unbecoming a United States Marine

Wolf~Walker
I spent 20 years in the military, 16 of them attached to the United States Marine Corps. When this story and video first came out back in March of this year, I was dumbfounded, sickened and horrified that an E-3 Marine named David Motari had killed a live black-and-white puppy by throwing it off a cliff.

The Marines with whom I served were honorable, disciplined, courageous and compassionate, as are most members of the Armed Services. L/Cpl Motari's actions are inexcusable and definitely bring discredit to the Marine Corps.

My rating in the military was Hospital Corpsman. I was trained to save lives, not take them. Even so, I believed in protecting the men with whom I served. If that meant taking the life of a human enemy, so be it. I'll also admit to killing my share of snakes, spiders, centipedes, rats and other vermin. But never did I consider killing a dog just to watch it die. So far as I know, neither did any of the Marines with whom I served. Regulations be damned, we often had dogs around and in our base camps. They served us well, in return for being fed and petted, they alerted us to suspicious activities after dark.

In the video of L/Cpl David Motari, when he was holding the puppy up for the camera; prior to his throwing the puppy off the cliff, it is quite obvious that the puppy was then alive. Note the way the puppy had curled up his hind legs, this is instinctive behavior to being carried by the scruff of the neck by the mother dog.

Also in the video, the puppy did not appear to be sick or emaciated as Motari has claimed. It appeared to be relatively well fleshed out. It took the puppy more than 3 seconds to hit the ground after being thrown off the cliff, equal to a fall of 100 feet or more. If it was sick, emaciated or dying, as Motari has claimed, why pick it up at all? It would have been much kinder to have shot it where it lay.

Did my military training in any way stress prevention of cruelty to animals? No. What did stress prevention was the way I was raised, to have compassion and treat with kindness most creatures with which I came into contact.

The Marines are expelling David Motari for "Actions Unbecoming for a United States Marine." It couldn't happen to a "nicer" guy.

This is a psychopath and should be placed on lifetime parole. They start with small helpless animal and end with small helpless children

I am glad that he got what he deserved. I would also like to answer ANON about his question why we are pissed more when an animal dies more than a civilian - simple animals can't defend themselves, cant speak or tell us to not kill them, they dont have the power to persuade us otherwise to not harm them - and in the case of the puppy - its a weak creature that would never do anyone harm, despite that Mr. Motari threw it off the cliff for the sake of entertainment.

The poster below named "wow" who commented that "americans really are an embarrassment to the 21st Century" is using the Motari incident to make bigoted statements against an entire nation of people who are all outraged at Motari's actions. Stereotyping an entire nation of over 280 million people for the actions of one criminal psychopath is as unfair as saying all Austrians are genocidal murderers because Hitler was Austrian.

The "BEEF" with the killing of fellow human beings this moron....People make the choice to go into the service. No one forces them to go and sign up. They are free thinking human beings who are trained to kill and be killed.
A puppy on the other hand for those of you that are narrow minded people, doesn't sign up for the service. Puppies do not sign up for being shot or thrown off cliffs.
Again wake up people think animals follow.

Cpl Lance David Motari is the Charles Manson of the animal world. I was disgusted when I heard about this guy. There is absolutely no excuse for his murdering that poor defenseless animal. He should be behind bars permanently. He is a disgrace to America!
