Then I create a simple resume, job history, letters of recommendation etc. If you dont have any letters of recommendation. Ask the people that know you to write something, maybe you are honest and a trust worthy friend to someone for years. To some employers that means something. Maybe you have been going into the same store for years and the owners know you as being responsible and trust worthy. This can work get creative. Think out and away from the box. Your first task is to put together this little booklet about your self. Kind of like a profile on myspace.
You are thinking you don't need one right because you are online everywhere Not so. You need a career book so make one. I made one 20 years ago and it has gotten me every job I have wanted ever since I made. Every employer that saw it said they would hire me on the spot. Why? Because I made the book in such a way that they could see I am a family man I have outside interests and hobbies. I even put my grandfather in the career book and said I learned my work ethic from my grandfather, He was a WW1 veteran that raised 6 kids through the great depression.
Are you starting to get the picture ? If you create a small but informative Career Book about your self that includes a resume, pictures of your family , letters of recommendation etc. You will blow the other applicants away. Most of the questions they want to ask are going to be in your book right! Right! Next bring the book to your interview, leave it with them and pick it up the next day. Give them ample time to look it over and make a decision. Do not show the book to other people that you are competing with. I learned that the hard way.
Making the book can be time consuming for sure but when you are ready to look for another job pull it out and up date it. So you made your Career Book submitted your application, but you cant get an interview. It happens all the time to lots of people I know. While some people may not be as aggressive as I am you still need to be creative in getting that interview.
I worked in hospitals so I have my own tactics for getting in. I worked in Surgery and its hard to get an Interview with the Operating Room Supervisor, first you have to get one with personal then you get to see your boss. Heres what I do, I find a little out about my new boss, what she likes to do etc. This cant hurt! I normally find out where she has lunch in the hospital and sit at her table. Bold yes but I am confidant when she sees my qualifications, and experience she will hire me. So far it has worked every-time. Get creative, they are just people. Maybe find out where they hang out or maybe a friend of yours will introduce you. Dont get discouraged I sent out 30 resumes to hospitals that needed surgical help. I received no responses until I showed up at the door with my Career Book. Then I was able to choose from several employers who needed my services. Everyone was impressed by the Career Book. Go a head create one its fun and your new employers will be impressed!
