Landon Donovan Transfer Rumors to Manchester City Surface yet Again
Donovan is without a doubt, the most recognizable American playing soccer right now. After a modestly successful World Cup, which ended with a heartbreaking defeat to Ghana, rumors almost immediately began to surface linking him to free spending side Man City. Of course, having to share the pitch with players like: Emmanuel Adebayor, Toure Yaya, among others to compete for with playing time with, falling out of favor could relegate anyone of the players to a stint on the substitute bench. Obviously, the wealthy owners of Manchester City are attempting to take advantage of the sudden loss of steam across town at Manchester United, but also Chelsea and Arsenal, and have their sights set on a Champions League appearance.
While the move would enhance the depth of Man City, the move would be a major blow the Galaxy. Los Angeles does not have a viable option waiting in the wings to serve as a long-term replacement for the skills that Landon Donovan provides. The Galaxy are also soon to be faced with a decision on the future of David Beckham, who has proved that he can still play in Europe with his loan stints at Italian club AC Milan. The likely scenario would have the Galaxy spending a fair bit of the money received from any transfer on bringing in a substantial player to fill the void. Though no rumors or word yet on who or when that might be.
