Landscape the Front Yard with Ease

Front Yard Landscape Ideas

Laurie Childree
I have a new porch it looks great and now I need to do something about the rest of the yard. Something other than keeping it cut and free from weeds. This is where landscaping of the front yard comes in. Now to get through the thousands of ideas out there and make the yard look as I want it to without breaking the bank or going into debt. That is easier said than done when you try to fill every corner; I have a rather nice size space to work with so the options are many. I just don't want to fill every inch of space because I want my children to play.

Since I want my children to play part of my landscaping has to include a children's swing at some point so a place to put it has to be decided upon. I like these stones that you put down to make a walk way so I think just enough of those to go from my bottom step to the edge of the drive in a staggered pattern with a cluster at the bottom of the steps.

There are already some trees down each side of my driveway but nothing next to the house. Maybe a bush or two around the front of the house since my herbs are already on the porch. I only have the two oregano plants left so maybe I should get a couple more they can easily fit around the edges of the porch for some color. I think some where to sit would be nice on the porch to look out over the yard.

I want a flower bed with one of those little fences around it. You know the short wooden ones that are only about a few feet high. Roses in one right in the center of the front yard close to the road. I have a fence down one side of the yard with honeysuckle growing on it so that side isn't a problem.

I've got birds and I used to have a homemade birdhouse in the backyard and I've missed it since it fell apart. Maybe I'll get one of the pre made ones and put it in one of the trees down the driveway. I have two pear trees; I want an apple tree and a peach tree. They can go at the edges in the corners.

Well, that's not much but it is a start, maybe some hedges along the edge without a fence, or maybe a privacy fence but then no one would be able to see the landscaping and trees already line the front so people have to get into the yard to see anything in it. I'll play with these ideas for a while and see if I can come up with anything else. These basic ideas will get you started all it takes is a little imagination and you will have a beautifully landscaped front yard.
